If I upgrade my Dana 30 w/ Warn's alloy shafts, CTM U-joints, and Warn's premium hubs, wouldn't it be just about as strong as a built Dana 44?

I'm thinking this could be the simplest and most ecconomical way to run ~35"s without breaking. What would be my weakest link (the hub, right)? I'd expect this would be cheeper than building a 44 (or 60) and I'd have just a little more clearance too.

I know a 60 would be the best, but I don't have the $$$$.

IF you plan to run 35's..you should be fine with a 30 as long as you don't get real crazy with your right foot and the wheel wedged in a rock or somthing.

you say you don;t have $$ for a 60, but you do have $$ for Warn shafts, CTM joints, and Wran hubs? Have you added that up?

I presume you're talking CJ D30, since you mention warn premium hubs. Or are you talking about a Warn hub conversion on an XJ.YJ.ZJ D30? If the latter, that's going to get very expensive.

Since you're talking about a CJ7, that would be a low pinion Dana 30. IMHO they're not nearly as strong as the YJ/XJ high pinion 30's. Your ring and pinion would be the weak link with all the trick shaft/ujoint/hub stuff.
Why not just go with a Scout or Waggy 44 and be prepared to cut and turn, and/or outboard the springs.
And use whoeveritwas's idea (saw this a week ago and forgot his name) of tacking washers on over the ujoint cap, if you still have enough room to get the shaft through the knuckle.

Look at it this way, All the mods needed to beef up a 30 costs alot of jack for all the more you get. And another step further away from a 44 or 60.
Save your money for what you want, and do it right the first time.
Spend around a grand "upgrading" a 30, go out and grenade it then what?... do it again? Fawk that.
