well im looking in the sears catalog right now & it goes for 589 so sounds like a good deal.Says 30% duty cycle @130 amps which is the same as the 175 but has less total amps huh.Anyway if I had acces to 220 power id be all over it.Probably be good up to 1/4 inch.

it says there is a mig welding converstion kit that you can buy for it, so does that means its not mig?

The conversion kit is for the shielding gas. Without the kit, you have to run flux-core wire. MIG stands for Metal Inert Gas -- the shielding gas. So technically it is just a wire feed welder without the conversion kit.

We run that same model at home, and it seems to work damn nice. Id get it for that price.

That welder looks strikingly similar to my Pro Mig 135. I couldn't be happier with mine, but I'm already wanting a 220V welder. If I were you, I'd step up to the one that's already set up for MIG welding. Saves you time and money of doing it later.

its a good buy. I have had mine for 6 years now, not one complaint about it.

Definetely a good buy. I've had mine for close to ten years now. I use it for building custom axles all the time. Will do 3/8" thick without a problem but 1/2" is a bit thick unless you are laying down multiple welds.

I have one with the gas conversion kit. It came from Home Depot. I actually bought it used (barely used). Works great. Duty cycle is fine for home use.

i have been using my weld pack 155 for close to ten years with no problems. mine is converted with the gas mig kit. if looking for a home garage welder, i would not hesitate to get one for $300. especialy if it already was converted to gas mig. i am to the point now where the dudy cycle is not enough for me anymore, and being limited to the 10-11 lb spools of wire is getting old. i am thinking about upgrading to a larger machine soon. i will keep my 155 still because of it's portability. with a generator and flux core wirre it can be used anywhere.

IIRC, AZ doesn't own the store, he merely works for them. When it comes to welding, he knows his shit.

I have the the weldpak 155 and for the money it is a good machine , i got mine new on ebay for 300 and spent another 150 or so for the gas kit and another 150 for a bottle . it will safely weld up to 5/16 , welded my beadlocks and it worked great . Duty cycle sucks but it aint no $1200 machine either . it works , just dont expect production type results from it

This brings up a question I have been wanting to ask someone at Lincoln for a while. Maybe you could help...

What are the main differences in some of these welders from say Lowes, then the ones you buy at a welding shop? Lets look at the 135's for example.

You can get the Pro Mig 135 at Lowes. The Lincoln site lists it, the SP135 and the Weld Pac 135. I have the Pro Mig and have seen the SP135. Only exterior differences I could see were that the knobs were inifinately adjustable on both the wire speed and heat ranges on the SP135. Whereas the Pro Mig 135 is just infinate on the wore speed and has a 4 setting knob for the heat. According to the Linocln site, they are all the same spec wise.
Anything else that makes the extra money for the SP135 worth it?

BTW, I am very happy with my Pro Mig 135.. Someday I'd liek to get a 220v model though.

I like my Pro Mig 135, but I'd certainly like to have some more power as well.
