: Degree Shims

I just narrowed a Dana 60 for the front of my Jeep, my goal was to run 6 degrees of caster and rotate the pinion up 4 degrees for better driveline angle. This was achived by rotating 4 more degrees of caster on the outer knuckles and using a 4 degree shim to even things out. Make any sense? :p

What has happened is due to the high arch of my 4" lift springs and my SOA the arch of the spring absorbs the 4 degree shim and I have 10 degrees of castor. So what I am looking for is a 4 degree shim that is concave to match the bottom of the spring.

I know the convex shims are made that go on the top of the spring for a SUA, does anybody have a source for concave?

Thanks

YJTJ,

I have aluminum shims, they won't bend and if they did it would rock on the perch.... thanks for the idea....

It cannot be rotated because it is cast into the housing.....

I am still having no luck with the shim issue, here are a picture of my problem.

Notice how the spring is picked up off the ends of the shim.

I have tossed around a few ideas, one would be to make a 1/4" plate, drill the center pin hole in it and at the outer edges weld in a little filler material to rest on the spring, this would give the bottom of the spring a flat surface. I don't like this idea but it is all I have come up with.

I am sure somebody has had this problem in the past, lend me your ideas...

Thanks...

WHOA!! Those are some arched springs!! How do those things ride?? :D:D

I used the same shims (Basically) on my cruiser, and they worked out great. But my springs are flat compared to those.

you would have the same problem with a perfectly rotated pad too...

u-bolts should crank that spot flat..

I don't know if it would help, but I'm going to be getting shims from 4crawler. I know he makes custom shims, but I don't know how custom.

Here's his website: http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4x4/ForSale/Shims.shtml

Beware of aluminum shims. I had a problem with aluminum shims cracking and falling apart, I went through a set of shims a month. Then I bought a set of steel ones from a local shop out here and no more problems
