I just oogled the fairlead again and noticed for the first time that the slot seems narrower than usual Hawse fairleads provided by winch makers. Maybe narrower than other rope fairleads. I'd expect the narrower slot will add strength and stave off flex as in the "mouth" stretching open under load. How will the narrow opening affect angled pulls? Or am I imagining things?

It is quite a bit narrower, but I cannot see why it would mattter. If the rope is running 90* off a small opening versus a larger opening, I cannot see why it would matter.
