The worst parts about IFS are this #1 cost of lift components. (typically twice the of solid axle. #2 Time involved to install (again two to three times as much as solid) #3 Durability. IFS doesnt hold up well under harsh use, ball joints wear quickly, cv axles tend to break etc.. #4 Performance. While IFS gives a nice ride on the road and over washboard etc, it doesnt flex well, and you loose ground clearance under suspension compression, bottoming out easily.

believe it or not it is actualy CHEAPER to SAS it than it is to buy a lift kit if you do it right.
search the toy forum and you will find a lot of venders that sell SAS kits.

That's a 3" lift via body lift? ...... How bad is IFS? I kinda like it myself and I have been in the 4x4 field since 84,,,,and remember when the mags were evaluating the Toyota IFS freshly in 1986. By the way, they said it was strong and up to the riggers of offroading :) ...magazines are afraid to say anything bad from their paid sponsors.
I myself have an 87 Runner with some good tight IFS in front still....ball joints seem good at this point....and I have done some Cheap free mods to it myself to lift it and such. I run 33"x 10.50 tires on factory aluninum rims with no rub in any of the planes. I don't know about 35's....let alone the 12.50 width issue. Could be rubbing sometimes.
I have 3 different Yotas....each one is radically different than the other ...each is specifically built with a use in mind.

The 88 Runner with auto with 529 gears with 31" tires is the "go to work" rig....it has bumpers from hell on both ends. It leaks fluid to the point of being a fire hazard:) I hope to someday have a cellphone type person total their car with mine being involved. That Runner can burn and I laugh as it does it :)

The 87 Runner I mentioned with IFS is a DD build and a camping rig. It can do some trails and rescue people that are busted up .

then there's the 92 flatbed with 22RE and 5 speed with dual transfer cases and a 4.0 gearset in the rear one and 589 pinions.....that's the rig to get to the camp spots that few can. It recently has seen a wheelbase change from 96 to 106....finally.

The lift & tires is to look cool at school right? You dont plan to wheel it? Go ahead & spend $1500 on a lift & $1000 on tires that will never see dirt. If you were gonna wheel it you would do the SAS Period.

just cut the fenders. ifs dosent have that much travel so you could get away with minimum firewall hammer bashing.:D

do a ball joint spacer lift from roger brown. and get his body lift kit.

Do you plan on rock crawling or just 4wheeling in general. IFS will never work well for Rock crawling. But you just plan on a some hills/snow/mud then an IFS will do.

Super cheap IFS lift?
Crank your tortion bar to the max, that should give you about 3" then buy matching rear blocks. Then we can all laugh at you :flipoff2:
