I promised the Contractor I hired I wouldn't help his guys, In other words, I would watch, keep my hands in my pockets and stay out of their way. Like most of you guys here, that's damn near impossible to do.
So, I built my Grand Daughters this Go kart in the garage, during the shop build. I had to be doing something!
It has a 4 HP Honda Motor and CV transmission. I built the frame out of 1 1/4 " & 1 " HREW I had left over from another project. I had to gear the thing down with a jackshaft as the engine was making the thing go 40 mph at first. Too fast for a 5 & 3 year old. We'll speed it up as they get bigger.
I made the pedal assembly adjustable. It can grow as their legs grow.
Used a flowered print cloth upoulstry material so they won't get a hot seat in the summer. I still need to pad the roll bars. Have it just haven't put it on yet.
They haven't seen it yet, either!
Idle minds are the Devils Workshop! EH!

Cool project, killer shop what are the dimensions?
40 MPH in a go-kart.. kick ass. My friend was effin' around in his go-kart once and wrecked into a tree and broke his wrist. Those things are dangerous

HAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa! :D I was just waiting for someone to say that.
Thanks for not dissapointing me! :flipoff2:
Lets hope they don't ever need that roll bar. It's not thin wall stuff bty. Tubing is 11 ga. I have been thinking about building them a real off road buggy with triangulation! Maybe when they get older.
Later, I gotta get out in the shop and get busy.

Maybe you just didn't notice, There are NO doors on the shop yet. They're still being built. No way in hell I'm going to put a lifetime of tools and machinery in an open building. We have thieves here too you know.
Have patience grasshopper. That crap is worth over $100K :flipoff2:
So yea, for now, it's a garage, until I can lock it up and unload the other garage. Then I get me a big old junk yard dog! They're legal out here....
How much crap do you have in your shop anyway??????? :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

The engine, CV tranny, axle, jackshaft, sprockets, chain, pedals, brake, hubs wheels, tires, bearings, cables and steering wheel came from Northern Tools. They have a pretty good supply of go kart parts on their Web site if you want to look at them. Not allways the cheapest source, but it was easy to compare the parts at the store and figure out what it really needed. Oh and the tires and wheels are from the lawn mower isles.
The steering shaft, steering links, bed, seats, panels and tube frame I made from scraps of material I had left over from other projects. The hood and floor are made from some very expensive stuff called ECM. A sandwich material of aluminum/plastic/aluminum. A material used in Keosk buildings. Very light weight and super strong. A bitch to bend. The panel under the seat is actually polished stainless steel. But, like I said, it was stuff that I had laying around.
The tie rod ends in the steering are Isuzu NPR 10 mm shifter linkage. Very nice stuff. Much better than the go kart rod ends.
I had some build up pictures on a disk around here somewhere. but I couldn't find them when I posted the pictures. I'll post them up when I run across them.
After I get the shop up and working it will get some suspension travel, so the little darlings won't hurt their heads on the rollcage. They are sure to want to go faster. I padded the roll cage since the pictures were taken.
Got to get back to wiring of the shop.
