I have a few towing questions. I have never towed anything lighter than my Firebird (5,000 with trailer and tools) or my Jimmy (6,500 with trailer). I know I couldnt tow in overdrive with either one for ovious reasons, but I just bout a flat bottom boat that weighs at most 3,000 with trailer. Now my burb has 3.42 gears and 33s, and it tows the Firebird and Jimmy okay, but needs more gear, so I was thinking 4.56s and 35s. Now with that light of a boat and trailer would it be okay to tow in OD, since I would like to go faster than 65 when towing the boat. I wont tow the Jimmy or firebird over 65.

Thanks for the help
Dan

700R4 right? factory 700s are considered a weak point in gm drive train, they can be built fairly tough though. The guy that did mine said it "should" be stronger than most factory 400s, "but" dont ever use od on steep inclines, surface streets, or towing. So off hand I would say no.

I wouldnt use od on inclines, or city driving, but I thought it would be okay for towing on flat land. I guess I will go with 4.10s then.
