Has anyone ever built Air Bumpstops? I am going to try it and was wondering if anyone had done it before.

First off, what are you shooting for?

Are you looking for a pneumatic bumpstop that basically just adds additional spring weight and some damping in the last few inches of "up" travel? Or an air-powered height adjustment?

And in either case, are you looking for adjustability? The same bumpstop that helps smooth rough roads when driven fast, tends to take away axle travel while rock crawling or ditch climbing.

A simple air-spring bumpstop could be fairly easily made from a small hydraulic cylinder, maybe 3 or 4" throw. You'd have to cork one end, and probably precharge it with anywhere from a few PSI to 30 or 40 psi, depending on what sort of bump you're looking at damping.

Yeah, I've built a few of them, A few companies actually make them, why don't you just buy some?

I would rather build them just for the experiance. You cant learn anything by buying them, and it seams easy enough. I just want them to replace the stock bumpstops that are on my truck now. I dont really jump the truck so I would not need them but it would be cool to tryout.

I was thinking about using a fox snowmachine shock body and making my own piston.

im thinking about doing the same, so that i can run super flexy springs, so that i could have more controll and so that my springs would last longer with the airbag assist.
