Got problems.... Possibly....

Installed my 400/sm465 conversion this weekend. I got the engine tranny installed on sunday and after everything was in, I went to do the clutch fork, slave cylinder part. Well somehow the clip that holds the cast fork to the bellhousing ball broke. It was new from GM and installed correct. I managed to get the clip out and one of the ears was broke.

1. Does this need to be on there since I am doing hydro instead or the levers/linkage the normal older chevy would use?

2. If I do need it, anyone know the part # :) ?

3. If I do need to put it back on, I imagine I have to drop the tranny again, or if I seperate it about 1-2 inches, will I have enough room?

What a kick in the ass after getting everything installed. :nuke: :nuke: :mad3:

I would think it needs to be there regardless of hydro or not. You dont want the arm coming off the ball and the throwout bearing allways riding on the pressure plate. Does your bell housing have the large hole ro the small hole in it for the for fork to go through? If you have the one with the bigger opening, you might
and I say might be able to replace the clip without seperating the motor tranny. I don't know if it will work, I've never tried it, but I would give it first.
Good luck

Wouldn't the bearing be riding against the clutch always anyways?

If the bearing is not against the clutch, that means there is going to be some play in the system, wether it be the fork/hydro rod connects.

wouldn't the pressure from the hydro, keep the fork on the ball?

Clip is 1.05 and the dealer has one in stock. I am going to get one and put it in.

Probubly you need it.

BUT ran mine for a long long time whith out.

years. probubly bad for throw out bearing
but I figure bearing will still last
a long time.

I adjust my clutch so the throwout bearing is NOT against the pressure plate. You do not want to allways have pressure on the
plate or you will wipe out the thrust on the main bearing in your motor.

Yes the clip is necessary to ensure correct postion of the fork in the ball socket it rides on. It will work for a while, but it will eventually bind from galling a grove in the pivot ball. Thuis usually happens at the worst possible time.....Like many miles from home!:skull:

With my luck something would happen when I am out in the middle of nowhere....

For a 1.05 I am going to fix it.

I still have the straps on the tranny, so moving it back shouldn't be a problem, just sucks after getting engine/tranny together you have to pull it apart again. Did I mention I was doing this by myself.... How does that toyota commercial go, "Oh what a Feeling... Toyota" :)

Actually it is the Chevy parts acting up :)
