: Newbie to suzuki question on crawl ratio, 125.1:1 ok?

I am a life-long toyota wheeler, but with a $2000 purchase, I bought the 3rd place sami from neuroc 02, mod class. It is great, cage, 35x14.5x15, 1.3 efi motor, toy axles, 100 inch wheel base, and fuel cell. BUT I have some work to do to make it my quality of a rig. I have a poly windshield in the mail, along with wiper motor and arms, but the last thing to un-fawk is the t-case and rear-end situation.

As of now, the truck has dual factory t-cases, but they are ghetto fab if I ever saw it. They took the first case, rotated it 90* and made new mounts, followed by welding the rear output flang to the second case input flange that is rotated back to stock clocking. So I have a 22" long rear driveshaft, with 6" of offset, and like 8" of drop. as of now it is geared with 4.11's. Final drive ratio is 77:1. (3.652x2.268x2.268x4.11)

It is ok, but with the low hp motor I am not sure that going to one case with 6.5:1 cal-mini gears, and 5.29's axles (weak as they may be) would be enough for serious rock crawlin? A total of 125.5:1 ratio. The only reason I don't leave it dual cases, is the drive shaft is just to twisted, if it were 3' long i could live with it, but the rear really humps when driven down the trail.

I know enough about toys and marlin makes enough parts that I could get a 22re motor and 220:1 ratio, but a motor flop and 2500 worth of parts is not what I want to do before the first season of wheeling. So would 125:1 to one be enough for the zuki motor???

thanks for any help. picks of the rig are at...

that should be plenty i used to have the 6:1's and 4.11's and thought it was too slow

I would say put the 6.5 case in and see how you like it with the 4.10's . It's quick and easy to swap out the t case . Then if it's not enough put in the 5.29's

well with dual 2.268 (5.1) I thought more would be nice, and I can shift into the higher ranges for more speed. right now with 5.1:1 4th gear is not really useable on the big hills.

true, i am just afraid of the little motor that can't not having enough power and me missing the perfect moment to go toyota 2.2, but the injection looks to be a bitch and the lce kit to be way too much...

how reliable are the 1.3 sami motors, easy enough to change, but that isn't the way I want to have to go with it.

They're usually good for a quarter million miles. Well, 160,000 easy, anyway. I have 424,000 miles on my three Zuks (1995 2-door trail rig - 134,000, 1995 4-door DD, 158,000, 1999 Grand Vitara - wife's DD, 132,000) That's with no rebuilds, just routine maintenance.

And OK, none of them are 1.3's - the 95's are 1.6/16's, and the GV is a 2.5 V6. But the 1.3 is just as reliable.

thanks, i feel safer about the lil sami engine now... how about rebuilding them, pretty simple i would think the one I have now leaves an oil trail for me to follow home...

I ran 6.1 and 4.11s with 35's and was fine on and offroad. Now on 36" IROK's I had to go to 5.29 and am fine. 75mph on highway and 117 to 1 offroad. !.3 EFI runs all day against the rev limiter and upside down in the water. I'd say a tough motor, just maintain it well. :D

if your satisified with the doul case set-up besides the rear shaft maybe you should just lengthen the rear with some coils and lengthen the rear shaft
it would save you some money
and my last 1.3 i used to beat the piss out of it and it just kept running had bout 160k miles on it
the 1.3 really likes to rev up
last time i went to hollister just for the hell of it i drove the sami for bout 4 hours strait on the freeway in fourth gear spinnin 500 rpms below redline and then 4hours back plus i hammered on it on the trail
i love the 1.3's but i just wish i was injected, but u don't have to worry bout that :flipoff2:

thanks again y'all. you ever hit PA, I got a private rock-garden and 40 miles of private trails... thanks to my boss and his rich family :D :D

Redline is 6,500.

Don't be afraid to hold it at 5,500, and it'll run all day at 4,000...
