I don't know what compitition you are talking about but in ARCA almost no one ran BFG's from what I've seen. Lots of people run Goodyear because the 37's are awsome offroad and you don't see umm on the trail because they are pretty much only available to competitors.

Seems to me the vast majority of competitors are using swampers or MTRs. I think the MTRs perform well in situations where you are SPINNING them (they do not side track nearly as much as swampers), plus because of their radial design they tend to keep their height more and result in less flex for better turning and less rolling over on sidehills..... that's just my opinion. I think the swampers do better in most other situations, but the need to spin and not flex the sidewalls laterally is becoming supremely important in the competitions where climbing and sidehilling are so common. Just my opinion, but anyway point is I rarely see BFGs, either in competition or on serious trails around here anymore.

I noticed that at the St. George UROC...for the most part it was either BFG or Goodyear...I think it is because BFG has a deal with UROC competitors...they get them at below dealer cost

DING DING DING!! Hell I would run MTR's too if I could get them that cheap. Not to mention if you blow one at a comp, most like the "Sponsors" are there to hook you up.

Only tire on display at the UROC event was the BFG. Actually I did not see many torn sidewals. However I did see a LOT of blown beads. Why don't people run beadlocks on a comp rig? Hell the Eatons are dirt cheap and might get you to the finish line.
Of the swampers I saw most of them were radial actually. Which suprised me. Although I did see a sammy (sort of) with 35" boggers in the rear and some hideously skinny groundhawgs in the front. He comprised some of the best breakage on sat!!!

its cause goodyear sponsers the competition, and sell there tires dirt cheap to competitors. super swamper does not nor do they discount there tires. $$$ is the answer

There are a number of comp rigs over $50-60,000, I find it hard to beilieve that these guys would choose their tires based on money. Currie's TJ for example runs them, and values thier rig at around $140,000. They also have a nicely equipped Semi/race trailer. $$$ is not always the issue. The comp. MTR's work, and they work very well.
