: D-60 Questions
Jpcj74x4 02-18-2002, 12:12 PM What's up fawkers?
I got a good one here. I picked up a rear dana 60 for FREE. And it aint much either. The previous owner isn't to sure what it came off of, cause the guy he got it from wasn't to sure. I need to figure out what it "might" of come from. And YES I did a SEARCH!!!! Searched all damn day and came up with a bunch of stuff that don't match what I got. It would be real easy to figure it if it had Bill of Material numbers, but their gone, rusted away, not there... And YES it is a Dana 60, 10 cover bolts, 9.75" ring, etc, etc,
This thing is only 63 1/2" wheel to wheel, full floater, 30 spline, 14" drum, 8 lug, and a 4.10.
Any fucking ideas? Most 60's are 65" and up, ain't they?
Please hold on the newbie flame shit, I'm already soaked with parts cleaner...
:bounce2:
oldjeep 02-18-2002, 12:16 PM Might be off an international truck. Travel alls and some of the bigger IH light trucks have D60's. Sounds around the correct width.
what diffrence does it make what it came out of ?
road1will 02-18-2002, 12:42 PM sounds to me like maybe a ford van? FF 30 spline, 61" WMS... :D
gunracer1 02-18-2002, 01:05 PM sounds like a old dually cab and chassie rear end. o yea :flipoff2: newbie. you can find 14 bolts about this width all the time, just look under the trucks with utility bodys or flat beds. mike
Dead Sled 02-18-2002, 06:01 PM My truck has a 60FF sumpin about a 9900# GVWR
Scout Dude 02-18-2002, 10:00 PM Why don't you get the BOM number off of the right axle tube and then check to see what it's from? You can call Jay @ West Coast Diffferentials and he can help once you have the number. 916/635-0950 x114.

:flipoff2:
Like I said, The BOM is gone, filled with rust.....It does have 5 numbers cast in the lower right side of the center section on the webbing. Never noticed this on other 60's.... my buddy at the local dana/spicer (driveshaft) shop thinks it's off of a dodge utilty truck, but he ain't sure either.
Mainly the only reason I want to know exactly what it is, is for when the magazines are beating on my garage door wanting to put my -7 on the cover of a magazine....I gotta tell 'em what's in it ya know!!!! LOL
44Runner 02-19-2002, 06:59 AM I think it might be time to whip out the wire brush. I couldn't read crap on my 44 until derusted the entire thing. Now you can see all the numbers plain as day.

thanks for answering my question. but it is actually cooler to just tell them it is out of the field behind your house. you know make up a good story like it was half buried in mud and the half sticking out was used to tie up the goat.

Lloyd 02-19-2002, 09:35 AM If you want the BOM numbers, go after it with a wire brush and then some Naval Jelly. Once it's good and clean, degrease it with alcohol or brake cleaner, and then get a good light on it and start with the cold blue (the selenous acid type). Slow and easy, don't wash it out all at once. Where the numbers are stamped it deforms the metal and causes a slight change in the crystal structure underneath. This area will blue differently, and you should be able to recover the numbers this way. It's worked for me.
