i talked to an ARB rep at the rod and custom show and he said they were promised an arb for a 14 bolt within the next year. If you are interested call em up and tell em how much you want one. if they get the interest they just might get it here.

I've been hearing that for a few years now, I wouldn't hold your breath. Just weld it or get a Detroit

If you do a group (en mass) purchase that usually gets ARB's attention. The Isuzu crowd has ARB building air lockers for their front axle, all it took was 250 people to shut up and put up.

Why?

Why on earth would you want or need a rear ARB, especially in a 14 bolt?

I ran a rar ARB in my Toy for years... as well as a rear lockright after the ARB got moved to the front where it belongs...

so from experience, rear ARB's are just about useless from what I have seen (and I had put over 50k miles on the one in the rear of mine :p )

Why?

well, because it snows here, and then there is ice, like al winter, months at a time. And I prefer to drive unlocked in those conditions.

Belly Dragger meant to say 50 (FIFTY) not 250 people.

As for ARBs in the rear -- wouldn't have it any other way.
* Leave it off and have fun, turn it on only when required. If you are always locked, a lot of trails no longer have challenge.
* Winter or wet weather makes an unlockable rear nice... especially when you are sidehilling on icy sheets....
* Ah yes, and I like to turn. ARBs make tight turns a bit easier than Detroits. :flipoff2:

I'm planning on running an eaton, basically a 14 bolt, and not only does it rain like hell in portland, but I also would like to save my tires as long as I can. I will just weld up my current diff, but if there was an arb available and I could afford it I would go for it. seems like it would make weavy mountain roads nicer, as well as slick snowy roads. Plus my truck is gonna get driven, not trailered.
I understand and appreciate the spool Idea, but not if there is a selectable locker that I can afford and it is for a street and trail rig. why compromise if it can do both?

I got this earlier today. If you would like the option of an ARB, I think it'd be best if we call/write ARB, they might bump it up from "third in line".

"Hello Charly,

We should have designed one years ago, but we were waiting to get
some time on a new design we were incorporating into the Ford 9"
differential. The 14-bolt shares some similarities to the 9" and we are now
confident with the idea of building a 14-bolt in the same manner as the 9".
My understanding is that the 14-bolt Air Locker is about third on the list
for development. Unfortunately, I can't give you an exact time frame for
the waiting period... it could be a year or more. Stay in touch if you like
and I'll tell you what I'm hearing.

All the best,
Chris Wood

Sweet! I welded mine. I've been waiting for them to come out with something like ARB for a 14bolt. :goofball:

yeah fred it does rain a little around here huh! Any you hit it on the head as far as "saving the tires" A friend of mine has a real nice 72 longbed with a ram jet and ocasionaly it might be nice not to do a one wheel peel, and just a little added traction when needed but in icy conditions or just plain asphalt driving unlock it to save the tires.
Me personally i still like a detroit but hey at least it gives you options! And fred did you find an eaton yet or still looking? Considering and eaton uses basically the same side gears as a 14 bolt you could make the arb work in it as well !

Hey bigB great to hear from you
yeah I found an eaton and currently have it apart.
I'm gonna run my 14 bolt shafts and sidegears just to get a few more splines. My plan is to run it open till I get used to it. then if I want I'll weld it up.
what have you been up to?
