ok heres the deal

i know where a 4.0 is sitting in an xj. it has 20k miles on it and its still in the xj. it was wrecked.

heres the dillio

does anyone have the factory specs on the tj vs the xj 4.0 or are they the same

i know some are going to say "well the SHOULD be the same" but i want hard numbers.(as opposed to soft numbers)

what im looking at here is this.....

my motor has almost 80k on it. i dont want to start pulling it apart and doing any more work to the motor itself with that many miles and how hard i run it. im thinking about grabbing this motor (800 bucks) and sticking it on a stand in the garage. if i blow mine up ive got the motor right there, and i can either stroke it or put a cam in it or WHATEVER i want because its not IN the jeep hense ZERO downtime.

so what are your thoughts? ill take opions but my biggest thing is are they the same motor will i be able to bolt everything to the xj motor just like i would have it on my tj (have oba and ac and such. it SHOULD be in the same place correct. i havent SEEN the motor im planning on doing that here pretty soon when this looks more serious.

thanks guys.:rasta:

Can't say whether it is the same or not.

But, if you've got an extra $800 for a back up to a good reliable motor (the 4.0), then the rest of your rig should be pretty damn done. And I seem to recall it is. :flipoff2:

I'm sure there are other things you could better spend your $800 on now.

Or maybe not. I'm not in your shoes.

they are the same, except the XJ has some mods to give it a bit more horse's.(i think they're exhaust and fuel management)I have a TJ and a XJ and they look like all the bolt-ons would swap from one to the other...I know, this isn't hard facts but it's all yer going to get:flipoff2:
buy it, it's a good deal and it will bolt in your TJ when (if) you need to do it.

I have a '96 4.0L out of an XJ that I'm swapped into my CJ. The only differences that I know of between the XJ and TJ are the exhaust (XJ header vs. TJ manifold style), water pumps (straight swap?) and clutch fan. The XJ uses an offset fan to the passengers side, using the AC compressor bracket. As far as I know, everything else should bolt right up.
