Well the old drill bit set was looking pretty ratty so Ive been in the market for a quality drill bit set. Found a TG Tools catalog sitting on my desk this morning at work. Titanium bit 3/8" shank 29pc 1/16"-1/2" for $15.45; there web site has it listed for $20something but I just told the salesman the price in the catalog and thats what he sold it to me for. They claim a 100% satifaction/ no questions asked, one year gaurantee; havent dealt with them before so we will see if they stand by it. But for that price use each bit once and its paid for. Also got a couple 1/2" shank Silver & Deming bits: 5/8"- $11.84 & 3/4" - $14.18.
Just a little heads up for anyone in the market for some drill bits. Ordered them today so havent had a chance to put them to use yet to see how they perform. I think they are chinese made  . Will keep you posted.

sorry no offense
Really though the quality of the chinese drill bits for $15.00 with a low grade titanium nickel coating really sucks...also the lasred hardened multi colored drill bits dont last for scratch either. The bottom line is that you get what you pay for. Even clevelands are starting to stink these days

I dont get what is so funny... Im not saying they are the end all of drill bits... They go dull and snap like any other, in fact while under severe use I exchange them once a week no questions asked.. can HD, Sears OSH, or even Snap-On do that ?

When I was young and my father was teaching me how to turn wooden parts on a lathe he had me drilling holes in a plank of wood. I pressed down on that .25 drill so hard it snapped. I was only 9 years old.....scared shitless I hid the snapped drill untill he needed it and it was missing from his set. I thouhg thte old buzzard was going to skin me alive but he just laughed...I shared that one for humor sake. 2 years ago I helped a company that builds firetrucks in their pump division welding and fabbing brackets and drilling chassis frames to get some things out quick. They had a similar deal against breakage and wear....needless to say it didnt last long. Kind of like a non wear warrantee on a band saw blade....crazy to think they would even consider this. From my experience drills last alot longer in a shop when they are used right and with the right lubricant than they do drilling in a garage with wd40 or soap so I guess the laughter is at the warranter....what fools man

What's the right lube and where do you get it? I've been on the look out for cutting oil but my local Ace and HD don't carry it
Do they make a drill doctor that will sharpen up to a 1" bit?

Nope, I've got the 750 and it only goes up to 3/4"

Likewise, I find bits lasting a lot longer now that I have a big drill press......ditto for hole saws.

If you want a cutting oil find a industrial supply dealer or even pipe cutting oil would work.Sometimes I just use motor oil or WD40.Any oil is better than cuttin dry.
The cutting oil I use is just some Craftsman stuff that's used for taps. I've found that with low drill RPMs and plenty of oil my bits stay sharp way longer than when I was just using some PB Blaster or whatever I had lying around.

Costco will take just about anything back after any amount of time for a full refund too... :D

I just bought a nice set of Bosch bits, titanium coated sizes up to 1/2". They also have some kind of special point on them (forget what Bosch calls it) but it keeps the bit centered on a centerpunch and they dont walk at all. I am impressed so far, got the 20 piece set from HD for $30. Matches my nice Bosch cordless drill ;)
bet its split point...135 degree tips

Just some FYI - Snap On considers its drill bits consumable items, and will not warranty them. Some individual dealers might make the warranty, but that comes out of their pockets - and not from Snap On.
They do, however warranty their tap and die sets for life - which is not a bad shake... We all know how they can get torn up.

My Snap On dealer will warranty any drill bit.

Yeah, I warranty quite a few of them also - but they come right out of my pocket. Snap On doesn't compensate the dealer for doing that. You ought to thank him for his service. He's doing something that he doesn't have to do.
We end up doing a lot of that sort of extra stuff for customers - because, we, like you, are in business to make a living - and we need to please our customers as best we can in order to compete with all the other tool sales companies out there. So, ultimately, if your rep doesn't warranty drill bits, he is just following the rules - and if he is - he is taking good care of you. Count your blessings.

Just got the bits in the mail today. They look pretty good. Real nice packaging. This will be the first time using split point 135* bits. They'll be getting a full field test tomorrow night :D

The bits have been working good so far. Got about a dozen holes on a few of the bits and theyre still takin some nice chunks with the occasional ribbon :D . No chattering. Right now all Ive got is a small bench drill press that likes to stop, only done this once or twice with these bits so far. My only complaint is the set only goes to 1/2"; kind of wenis :( Thats why they sell individual bits.
