I have been working on some ideals for a shop. One Ideal is to buy some land put up like a 60x90 steel buliding and taking 30x60 of it and making it into a 2,2 house to live in. I was just wondering if you all have heard of this befor?

I mean it would have a full fire wall and vapor barior to separate the two parts. and that would still leave a 60x60 garage/shop.

So what do you think of the ideal all opinions welcom good or bad.

sounds great as long as you don't plan on getting married

Or you've already got the very understanding wife.

I can think of two places around here where somebody did something just like that. One other that I know of, they did a two story garage (shop below and house upstairs) to live in while they built their house and then turned the upstairs part into guest quarters.

I agree that if it looks like a warehouse you're going to need one heck of an understanding wife!

Do a two story building with living quarters on top. Install a dumb waiter for the groceries or an elevator. You can move your furniture in through a hot tub deck and sliding doors with a sky lift.

More importantly, a 2 story building will improve the resale value.

That's a great ideal! I wish I could come up with ideals like that! That ideal is really quite ideal. :flipoff2:

Probably have poor resale value for your investment.

On the 2 story suggestions, not ideal since it limits height for things like lifts and gantrys. However, you could do like a half second floor or something so that part of the lower floor had very high sealings, or you could make a 2 story that was the height of a 3 story, but that brings other problems.

As far as a lift area I just bought a place that has a smaller 25x45 shop. We are goint to add a second story on top for a game room (pool table, air hocky, darts and a bar). The shop will have a 10' ceiling over 35' and the last 10' will be open to above for a lift. The up stairs will end up being 25x35 with a bathroom to boot.
