I was wondering, does this 87-88 TH400 look like a 4x4 version, minus the t-case adapter? It has a large 32 spline output shaft, and a 6 bolt hex pattern flange. I was told i'll need to replace the shaft with a short shaft, but this looks like it might be ok if I just put on the adapter.
please comment.
Thanks,
Chris

From what I could see on the tape measure, it appears to stick out about 5.5".
The longest the shaft sticks out for any 4x4 version is 4.5" for the NP205.
The NP203 and NP208 both use shorter shafts than 4.5".
That 5.5" shaft could be a car tranny or even a truck tranny, too. But no, nothing longer than 4.5" is used on any GM 4x4 truck.

How can you post pics without a red star next to your callsign??????:skull:

Nope, that's a standard short tailshaft 2WD trans. You'd have to either run a divorced T-Case or rebuild the trans with the correct 3rd gear drum/output shaft.
Doc.
Simply...I used the IMG html code and typed in the URL where the picture is stored.
