hey everyone,
i have a 98 chevy silverado z-71 4x4, i want to lift it 6" or more but have no idea what lift kit to go with. or just trash the whole IFS system, and go with a straight axle conversion. i haven't done much research into the straight axle, i know it will be expensive but will it be worth it???
any advice/information would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
steve

If your truck is going to see the kind of trail use "most" Z71's do keep the IFS and open put a Rancho 6" kit on it. If you plan on getting crazy with it, you will find the limitations of IFS. ...As for the conversion, try doing a search on the subject.

Good luck:smokin:

Dont waste your money on an IFS lift if your gonna wheel it, do the SAS and you'll have a lot less headaches. The SAS will be more expensive depending on the route you go, but the money you'll save on buying balljoints, idler arms, pitman arms, cv joints and paying for wheel alignments will make it about the same in the long run. Do it right the first time.

I agree with Monzter, If your gonna wheel it convert to straight axle, if its a pavement pounder, check out www.fullthrottlesuspension.com they have a way better reputation than whiplash suspension, for big lifts for IFS trucks, their home page on their website is even worth checking out, 2001 chevy 3/4 ton lifted 18" on 44"'s 15" of that is ifs suspension.

thanks for all the info. i probably won't be wheelin this truck like some of my friends and there jeep's, so i think i'll stick with the IFS. on the subject, has anyone heard of full throttle suspension? are they a decent lift? or is it another case like whiplash suspension that i've heard about.
thanks,
steve

Steve, I work with a buddy , he looked into all kinds of IFS suspensions for his truck he wanted to go big but didnt want something that was gonna break, He eventually went with Full Throttles 10" IFS kit,+ a 3" body kit on 39.5 boggers, the truck looks sweet and the quality of the lift kits looks like they took there time designing it, It also cost almost twice as much as a whiplash kit, but he says it was worth it.
