My CJ is my daily driver. Im putting on 36in tires(I have 35 dunlops now that are 34,7s in reality) and putting in a D20 low gear kit. Stock my CJ had 3:54s with 29in tires (I think 29s?), according to some gear ratio charts it ran @2450 RPMs @60 mph.
If I put 36s on I should run @ 2300 RPMs @60mph, I have 4:10s in now and a t18 w/6:32:1 first gear and a 6cyl. Will I tear up the trans or go thru clutchs with 36in tires? Thanks for any advice.

no, that first gear is really deep. you have a 1st gear high ratio of 25.9:1. That would be the same as having a newer manual (roughly 4:1 first) with 6:1 diff gears.

My first gear is not syncronized(SP?) so I dont use it, Do you think Ill have any problems starting out in 2nd as I usally do?

you should have slightly better gearing in high range then I currently have with 33's and 3.50 gears... and I always take off in 2nd with no issues

I ran 38 SX's with 4:10's and a T18 with the 4.0 Jeep YJ motor. 2nd worked fine to start and I cruised 65-70 no problem

don't think of first gear as first. Think of it as "low". Your second gear is really your first gear. you should be fine with that setup
