: Any one got R12
utahsamiman 03-09-2005, 05:54 AM With summer coming I want to get my A/C back up to pressure. I dont think it has been full since I got it, but it still blow a bit cold.
And before anyone says it, I know that it is a controled substance. But ya got any, like a small can?
yes, i have a 12 oz can in the garage :flipoff2:
it only comes in big propane sized bottles, and you have to evac the system to fill it back up to the right level... if you're running r12, you're hooped.

It is still available in 1 lb cans.
If the system is not empty, he doesn't have to/can't draw any vacuum on it.
He's "hooped" because he's not certified and asking people to break federal laws on his behalf.

Try this instead- it's a hydrocarbon refrigerant that's non-toxic, nonozone depleteing and is compatible w/ just about all reffrig systems. Cools better too, than r-12/134a
suzuki1750 03-09-2005, 11:34 AM Just convert it to 134A. You can buy the kits almost anyhwere. And you dont need a EPA cert.
87 Ford 03-09-2005, 11:36 AM Don't know bout Utah......But in comunist Kali, all ya gotta do is go to EPA.gov website.....take their stupid little open book test....ohh yeah and pay like $20.00...Shazam ur a EPA certified A/C tech......Buy yer own R12 from autozone , Kragan , Napa.....WTF is theworld comming to :shaking:
blacktoy 03-09-2005, 01:37 PM try FREEZE 12 (http://www.freeze12.com/) , I've used it many times with great success.

whats it werf to ya?
wheelsup 03-10-2005, 02:35 PM whats it werf to ya?
About $47 a can around here.
And i am sure som time in the pokey, for providing it to someone who is not licensed, shipping it (probably across state lines),and you installing it without being licensed, AND having the proper recovery recycling equipment at hand.
yes, being 'licensed' is only part of it. It is still not legal to use it in your driveway unless you have the proper recovery equipment on site.
We get people thru this area pretty regular, they track sales of r12 thru your social security #, then come find out what you are doing with it, and see if you have recovery equipment. have had them in here a few times in a year, (and that is only buying probably not more than 20 cans a year). I was told by the distributor, that at 3 cases they will come check you very thoroughly.

Madzooki 03-10-2005, 03:22 PM Dupont stopped supply of R12 recently. I guess they finally got it to the point were their stock is really depleted. We dont even stock it at work anymore. It sells for 29.99 here in S. Texas a can. Hell R134 has more then doubled in price in the last month. It went from 4.99/can to 12.99/can. Get some freeze 12 like Blacktoy suggested. From what I have been told it works just as well as R12 at a fraction of the cost and with none of the legal issues.
Paul
my dad bought that can of r12 for 99 cent at a supermarket a LONG time ago
utahsamiman 03-11-2005, 05:42 AM but with freeze 12 do you have to change over the system like with 134a?
wheelsup 03-11-2005, 06:16 AM If you just want to top it off, and don;t give a crap about it 9which seems you don;t) then find an A/C buddy who has a can of 500 around. Mixed in up to 10% it will cool like a deep freeze, I have mixed it in to 50% before (have it in my DD blazer, will frost the windows in the middle of summer here in Houston). Ever heard someone say the air blows so cold it makes their bones hurt? Mine does.
It is great stuff in the almost inadequate samurai a/c.
brian.
(oh, normal disclaimer, it is not for mobile a/c use. but half the stuff people are puting in nowadays isn't either)

It's a direct drop in for R12, check the link for info...

Its also full of amonia and destroys your compressor fairly quickly because it breaks down the oil in the system. At least thats my experience with the stuff from Mexico.
