In my 98 Disco I've been fighting my front drive shaft vibes after my 3inch lift for months (who hasn't). I called tom woods to see if I could get a half inch front spacer for the front xfer yoke and it was a no go because of price (above 100.00 just for a balenced spacer????). Well I have also been checking in with the local LR service shop looking for a Discovery II front DC shaft that I could rebuild with greasable u-joints and have been looking for an adapter for the xfer case flange in case the LR guys found me a worn take off. To my suprise a guy on Ebay finally created both for cheap. I bought the front spacer and will be trying it out as soon as I get it.
Now just to let you know my rover is my Daily Driver/tow rig and does some 2track camping here and there. I have two other hardcore offroaders that I take wheeling so new woody or GBR driveshafts front and rear would just be a waste of money in my situation if there is another way around the vibes. Origianlly my idea came to me because my samurai crawler uses 1" spacers on the front and rear axle flanges and has worked terrific on and off road for years. I do understand on the Discovery the front pinion flange and xfer case flange do not line up laterlly so I guess we will see how the spacer works, if at all. But in all actuality I have seen lots of post about people putting the D2 front drive shaft on a D1 so the adapter this guy offers would be a great breakthrough in that situation. Just some FYI and wondered why I did not come up with more info on this when I searched.
thanks,
