Congrats to Jody for the Stock Mod win. Sure would be nice to see some unfamiliar names in those groups. Guess people are just too intimidated to step up and compete.

People are not intimidated, it's just so expensive to get to and run an event.

I have an idea, maybe someone should put on an event and only charge $5 a vehicle. :D

Folks can already compete in WE ROCK for $150, and get trophy's plus two shirts.

They just need to take 2-3 days off from work, drive 1000 miles each way while towing, pay for meals/rooms, and hope you don't break anything that cost money.
I had a bad weekend at ProROCK and broke both the inner/outer front D60 Chromo shaft's on the short side, driveshaft CV, twisted the wheel studs in my Super duty setup, and damaged two fenders and a hood. Finished 5TH.

Intimidated.....get real! AND, if you think ANYONE can walk onto a competition course with a trail rig and beat Dean Bollock or Tracy Jordan, keep dreaming.

Thanks !! My name is unfamiliar in this class! this is only the beginning of my 2nd year, as a driver! :grinpimp:

Congrats to all!

Actually, entering a comp is not far off from going to the EJS, or Chile challenge etc. A lot of trail guys have the "worthy" rigs, tow equipment and run the miles to go on organized trail rides where they pay to play and either camp or stay in hotels. You also have an "opportunity" to earn support from sponsors that is near non existant for the trail riding crowd- name your poison, I don't see what the fuss is about. (End of hijack):)

Brian,
I was referring more to the stock mod class. I don't know what Pro Rock charges for entries but I know there must be AT LEAST a few vehicles within 3 hours of Cougar Buttes that area worthy to compete. So then is it strictly a cost issue?

Because of the restrictions on the Stock Modified class I don't see anything beating a Jeep TJ. What other vehicles came linked from the factory, perfect wheel base, V6, no grill or fenders at the front of your tires, and you can buy a light weight tub?

Like Ken said, it's not much different from a Big Run, however you have the CROWD factor! This seems to eliminate the INTIMIDATION factor and makes the weakest of competitors feel like Super Man.....well, until their winching your rig back on to your wheels, or your back at the tow rig counting the $$$$ in broken parts. :shaking: . I enjoy the competition.

Nice write-up Chris Geiger and great pics on www.off-road.com . Awesome how that WildHorses team came back from last on Saturday to 5TH on Sunday. :D

Now that the EB sheet metal is junk, got any more action pics for me to remember it by?

BTW, My spotter lives in Fresno and I'm in Hanford.

Jason Scherer, Mike Berard, Aaron Goodrich, and I all drove down from the bay area, took one day off of work, and got a whopping 3 hours of sleep monday morning before work :flipoff2:

It was worth every bit of it :D

Cody Waggoner in his CJ-5 has consistantly proven that TJ theory wrong. :p
His shorter wheelbase did produce a few more (endo) rolls but he was always well compensated by being able to more easily weave through the typically tight turns in most Mod-Stock coarses.
I do believe CJ/YJ/TJ Jeeps with long arms and coil overs will soon dominate the class though, now that this type of set up is legal in all venues except the almost non-exhistant UROC Sportsman events.
In reality, the drivers and spotters tend to make the biggest difference in the final outcome in this class. Having competed next to teams like Cody & his Dad, Jeff Mello & Kevin, Garret & Matt Sisson, Becca Webster, Joachim S., Cathy Crook, Stumpy, Jody & Jack among others, has been a great learning experience ... something most won't often find on any trail.
Frankly, I too am surprised that our class has not grown more over the past two years ... and I too can't figger out why. The meets I've attended have been some of the most exciting, and fun experiences I've ever had.
And no one can say the Mod-Stock coarses are easy either ...
coarse designers with an Unlimited Class mind-set rarely tune their gates down in porportion to this class's tire and body rule restrictions. So yes, you do feel like SuperMan after completing some of them ... stuff most recreational drivers might deem impossable.
I enjoy competion too ... except when stareing up what at first looks like a sure route to distruction and Hell.
But, it will make anyone a better driver faster than anything I can think of ... :flipoff2:
See ya'll in Moab!
