I have harvested a front dana 44 from a 1974 300 recently. It has 8 lug, no locking hubs, but does have flat top knucles. I plan on using this in a soa c.j. 7 full width And Hummer wheels to offset the width some without shortening the tubes. I know I need to have the knucles spun a bit for proper alignment, and was hoping someone here could give me a bit more info on what I have got. Have I done good ?? Help me out, Huh ?? Any Idea on who could do the knucle adjustment ?

Well, you have a front end that takes $250 front rotors.. and it's from a 200, not a 300.

You'll also need to work something out when you angle-mill the spring perch to point the pinion up - the factory threaded-blind-hole setup doesn't seem to be a great setup after you angle mill the perch.

Otherwise.. woo-hoo.

Huh.. The vehicle I took it out of had IH-300 on the fender..

Is this the H.D. 44 with the thick tubes ?? So ya think it's o.k. ??

They never made a 300.

In '74 they had the 100 and 200 and 500.

In '75 it was 150, 200, 500.

Prior to '74, you could buy a *1300* which was a 1T and would have had a DANA 70 front end.

Dunno if they're thick tubes or not - I imagine so.

It's at least as good as any other Dana 44. Only concern for me is the $250 EACH brake rotors.. Dana 60 rotors are cheaper.

O.K. Thanks again..Damned expensive rotors huh ?? Is all of this stuff for this axle avaiable somewhere..bearings, rotors, ect. or are all of the 44s pretty universal except for the frigging brake rotors ?? Kinda wanted to use this axle for the buildup and not have to start searching all over again..

If NAPA doesn't list it, you can get your parts from Super Scout Specialists (http://www.superscoutspecialists.com)

Most parts should be fairly universal.

I do recall hearing the spindles are no longer available new tho'.

Wouldn't it have the elusive 8 bolt knuckle? And if so, couldn't you just swap to the less expensive Scout outers?

Yeah, that'd work too.

Sell off the spindles, stub-shafts, and other outers.

Of course, he said "8-lug".. which Scout II outers are not. :)

But if you wanted 5 on 5.5.. yeah.. SII spindles, hubs, rotors, brakes, etc... stub shaft..
