Here we go..I'm new to this forum, but I get a lot from reading it so here is what I have and hopefully I can get some direct application type info on what I have to work with and where I'm going..
84 cj7 original 258, planning on a f.i. upgrade, have the granny low 18/20 combo sitting in the floor, also have harvested a front dana 44 out of a 74 IH-300 8 lug flat top knucles, no locking hubs but drive flanges , plan to use the jeepextremes high mount steering , and a rear 60 semi float 35 spline 8 lug out of a 84 ford 1 ton van. plans are to weld the rear, lock rite the front, run 5.38 gears, and s.o.a. waggy springs, outboard spring pearches, hummer wheels to help offset the width and 36-38 tires. Already have M.O.R.E greasable shackles, and Sams Off road traction bar.
I really don't plan to do an engine swap any time soon, so what I'm looking for is a combination that will work well with an injected 258 and not spend more time broken on the trailer than on the trail.. Kinda hoping my choice to leave the stock axle widths alone will offer an easier choice in salvage yard replacement parts..
What I'm looking for here is info on the combination, individual parts, ect to help me make decisions on the thing before it all goes together.. I can't afford to have to rebuild this thing a dozen times before I get it right so any info would be greatly appreciated..
