i'd like to put a 22 gallon fuel cell in my tj. it is the right height to use the stock pump and sender, but the tank has foam in it...has anyone used foam with the stock pump? i was thinking i could just cut away some of the foam where the sender drops in, but wasn't sure....i did a lot of research and everyone seems to use baffles or the 15 gallon rci tank but but i really need the 22 gallon tank to make my road trips to paragon nicer... the other option is to get one made with baffles, but i'd rather be able to just buy one...thanks for any tips or help! oh yea, i know about the yj fuel rail and running a different pump, but again, if i don't have to do this it would be best :)

I work on aircraft in the Air Force. The fuel tanks that are on the A-10 and C-130's are filled with foam. I know this is a big difference from what is in our vehicles, but same principal. If you use the foam just be certain to use a fine mesh screen over the inlet. Adding an exta filter wouldn't hurt either. The only problem I can see with this is if you hit the tank hard it might loosen some of the foam. Just be careful. I know with the stuff we use it is packed so tight that would be hard to do. Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

I had nothing but trouble with the foam in my fuel cell. just kept clogging filters and locking up the pump.

well, i just pulled the fuel pump and it sucks fuel from the bottom and holds it in a tube, the stock tank has no baffles or anything, so i'm thinking i can just take the foam out...there are 2 vent lines on the stock tank, do i have to use these or can i just get rid of them on the fuel cell?

Ditch the foam, it grinds itself up on the trail, as FlexCJ5 stated. You need the vent (rollover valve), as well as the return line.

Foam is really that much trouble? I'm planning on picking a up a fuel cell shortly and was really leaning towards the foam. I figured since circle track and baja guys run it to control fuel sloshing i thought it would be benefiicial for my offroad driving style. Is there a better quality foam?

I run a 12 gallon Jaz fuel cell from Summit in my YJ w/ foam and have had no probs so far. I have an inline filter right before my carb, and the little filter inside the carb inlet.

My old Triangle fuel cell that I ran for 4+ years had foam in it and I never had a problem with it breaking down and clogging the pump. My new RCI cell has no foam, and I wish it did. The fuel slosh is out of control. I can only fill the tank up about 2/3s of the way because if it's any higher, the fuel burps out of the vent.

You could use oil Ots w/holes in them to control slosh.

Would there be difference between running foam with fuel injection vs. carb? would the high line presures tend to pull the foam through the sump? I was pretty sure the foam would deteriorate in gas for like at least 10 years or something like that. Anyone running a foam cell with FI and have any problems?
