OK I've searched but couldn't find an answer. Does the Dana 70 take a drop in Locker (like a 14 bolt FF)? Or does it come with a new carrier? Anybody got the width of a GM duallie D70 handy?:usa:

it depends if it is a front or rear and if it has 23 or 35 splines!

It's a rear D70 (duallie pick-up). Pretty sure a 35 spline but I'll look again tomorrow.

thanks, mossberg:usa:

if its a rear then yes it is 35 spline. i have one in my driveway... my dodge dulley D70 rear is 69" drum to drum. anyway all rears are 35 spline and they all will use a new carrier, but you can weld up the spiders with a tig and good rod instead.

I have a rear 70 out of a 75 E350 van. 35 spline. You can get a full detroit (new case) ARB, open diff with a lock rite, or weld it.

I will be welding mine until the gear swap and at that point if the $$$ is there I will go ARB but will probably end up with a lock rite. The lock rite in a 60 or 70 is HUGE. Should be plenty strong for my 4.0/Auto setup

lock rites scare me I've had a few friends with them and they seam to only last about 2 years then :nuke: and with my luck the ring and pion would go :nuke: with the lock rite

I have had lock rights in my toyota front and rear and put many miles on them, street and rocks. Then I had one in the front of my 44 in my YJ. Beat that thing along with 4 other friends with lock right front 44's. Nobody broke.

I say if you have a V8 a rear lockrite is probably not the best idea. But for $$$ reasons I will probably end up with a lockrite

The price on the lockrights are great and the fact that it can be installed in my own drive way would be great but i have a v8 and a heavy foot. :)

How different is the M715 D70 from a regular dodge or whatever D70? I know it has a lower spline count. 23? But the carrier looks different from the one in the pic above. Its bolted together, i think 4 pinions? What kind of stuff is available for these axles? I have several i want to use for various stuff.

WOW thats a hell of alot of weld. I don't have nearly that much and have never broken one. I just welded the spider gears to the carrier. Looks like you welded everything solid.

My Friend has the bolted carrier with 4 pinons he was told that is the hevy duty carrier and mine in the pics is a standard carrier. My dana 70 came out from under a 1973 winabago brave (aprrox 24 foot model) and it's 35 spline 4.88. I'm junking the small dodge yoke and using a bigger chevy yoke.

The D70 came a few diffrent ways, most common is the 35 spline with 2 piece carrier. You can also get one with a one piece carrier, like welded above. The M715 like 23 spline. Real old ones will have something like 19 or 16 spline, found a few saw that they were course spline and cut the centers out for the gears. And I'm sure there are a few others out there.

90s dodge 70s are 32 spline
