I've got an '80, CJ-7, 258. But the MC 2100 only fits YJ's intakes. What are you doing to place a MC 2100 on the CJ intake?

Oh yeah, and I was told the Ford 300 distrubutor was an upgrade, 1) because of higher quality/available parts, and 2) because you can run High Energy ignition on them.

Any comments?

I don't know who told you that, but it's BS. The CJ and YJ intake are the same as long as the CJ is a two barrell intake. Both require an adapter for the MC2100. If your CJ has a one barrell carb swap to a two barrell intake manifold.

As far as the Ford 300 distributor, you've got some terminology wrong. It's a swap to the cap, rotor, coil, and wires that the 300 uses, not the entire distributor.

Why isn't this in newbie???

It's an excellent upgrade, I have it on my jeep... "the juice box" seems to be fairly cheap compared to spending the time to peice together.. Then put in a DUI or MSD ignition

An electric fan is also a good upgrade like blackmagic or a Ford Tarus fan from the junkyard.

aftermarket carburetor like 2100 or webber is deffinitly a worthwhile upgrade.

upgrade to headers like banks, borla or any other high quality headers as well as larger freeflow exhaust (I think stock is like 1.5, or 1.75? I upgraded mine to 2.25 or 2.5.... i dont remember, but it helped a bit)

As stated above the 4.0 head conversion is a good option.. with or without the MPI

Depending on your year/laws/location lack of smog equiptment will make it run better.

There are lots of things you can do to make it run better...

The motor I just rebuilt is .030 over mild cam 4 barrel intake heddmen header and dual flows. I rebuilt it before I found out about this site and nobody around my town seems to know anything about performance upgrades on the 258. + :jeep: = :crybaby2:

A good option is to build s stroker motor. There are several websites out there dedicated to building one. Some list all the part numbers you need to perform the build, and others are dedicated to building one from junkyard parts.

Here's one:

Does anyone know if the MC2100 swap will keep a 1980 258 smog legal?
