I pretty much trashed my tie rod and drag link this past weekend , I hooked my winch to it under the bumper to pull it out far enough to drive off the trail and home. What is the best upgrade for my steering? The V-8 ZJ conversion? I saw one conversion at Rusty's off-road I think but it went to a solid tie rod which will give me bump-steer from hell. I am wondering what is best. I could get some chromoly tube and make a tie rod but the damn drag link is a different story. Any ideas or experience? Thanks:usa:

Drill out the knuckles, cut off the swaybar brackets (who needs a swaybar??), make a cross-over steering system, and use heims. There's a write-up on Rockcrawler (http://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/tjsteering/)

The only problem with the crossover and heim joints is this is also a daily driver. Every one of the heim steering systems say not for onroad use.

Ive been running a custon setup for almost 2 yrs now, with no problems. 1 1/4 in. DOM tie rod w/ 3/4 in hiems. 1 in. DOM draglink w/ 5/8 hiems. customs bracket on tierod to conect draglink passangerside hiem in the vertical plane. Works well, no binding, no problems at all.:D

Once I install the new front axle, I'll be running heims on a custom hi-steering set-up. My TJ will see more street time once everything is completed. Right now, I'm just trying to keep it together to make it to the trails, thru the run, and back home again.

Try Dave at www.xtvengineering.com I am sure he will do it for you, or sell you pieces to do it yourself.
