Can someone tell me a way to tell if / how badly my rear axle is bent?
It's an AMC20 in a CJ7 that's leaking out the wheel seals something crazy. The driver's side is the worst, but both sides are definitely leaking.
My pinion is rotated way up to coincide with my drivetrain, and I as such, the oil level is quite high in it (to keep the pinion bearings lubed). The fill plug is now above the centerline of the axle tubes, and the oil is up to the plug level.
Is it leaking because it's bent, or because it's 'overfull'? I really don't want to have to mess with replacing the seals if the housing is bent, as the bearings are a b!tch to press off.
