If you need a stock 2F alternator bracket for the passenger side, give me a shout. I just tripped over one.

Is your rig still smogged? I have my Alternator in the stock location and the P/S pump in the smog pump location.

Works fine.

Nolen,

Can you post a pic of the PS pump sitting in the smog pump location? I am planning on doing the same thing and am looking for ideas!

Use a stock 2f bracket and move the alt, depending on the year, you may find it easier to swap alternators also.

For the PS mount, use the original smog or alt bracket. The lower one works nice, drill the thru holes to 3/8" and get a some flat washers and a couple of 3/8" bolts. 1" and maybe 1 1/2" length. Don't press the pulley on just yet. Put a bolt in from the front and one from the back to the pump and drop the bracket into place. Use the washers to shim the pump front to back to align the pulley. Once you get it located you can make spacers by measuring the washer thickness on both sides. Take your time to make sure the belts are aligned, unless you want to be the guy who is squealing like a pig on the trail.

For the adjustment bracket, you can use one of the holes in the pump body, but that will restrict the amount of adjustment. Fabbing a bolt on bracket, in the shape of an upside down "V" that bolts to the pump, and has a hole drilled or stud welded to the point of the "V" will line up nicely and give you lots of movement for adjustment.

A trip to the boneyard will get you lots of adjusting brackets to choose from. Remove the closest water pump mounting bolt, get one 10 mm longer and a lock washer and your done.

Tip on the steering box mounting: Assemble the pitman arm and steering rod when trial fitting the box placement. If the box is mounted at an angle up towards the column the attachment point of the steering rod will be raised, be sure this is what you want before welding. An arc perpindicular to the ground will give you the most turning radius, but might cause misalignment of the linkages.

Also check the clearance at the stabilizer mounting tab, I had to eliminate this because of interference with the steering rod at full compression.

I fell for the 4" dropped cherokee arm sales pitch. $58 was wasted when the sterring arm was pointing upwards towards the knuckle, and the short overall length restricted the turning radius. 70 Camaro arm, straight and if I recall over 6" long.

Another money grabber is the combo gm to metric sterring arm so one can use the toy tie rod ends and a saginaw on the box end. Still don't see the advantage to this on a trail rig, the steering arms and the pitman arm can easily be bored to 5/8". You can make some bulletproof steering rods for the cost of the pitman and steering rod. If your real good use 3/4" heim joints, make a bushing that is 5/8" inside diameter and 3/4" od and use 5/8" bolts and crimped nuts.

Here are some pics although they aren't very good.

I would go w/ a scout box. much cleaner install & you dont have that damn box sticking out the front of your truck exposing the pitman arm draglink & interfereing w/ future winch installs. the only problem is they are a little harder to come by. I'm sure jeff will hook you up w/ the best setup

Back to the bracket for the power steering pump. A functional, but kludge, is on my fj40.

Four flat pieces of 1/4" plate. One against the block, two and three make arms around the old GM mount, four is the top support.

JTO has a Saginaw bracket for the 2F for $100. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.
