I have a '83 1 ton dually w/ the dana 70 and it had a 454 and the 3 speed granny 2wd trans, I am putting a 350 or a 400 in there and I am thinking of converting the stick to auto and use a aftermarket floor-mounted shifter. I am probably will go w/ a turbo 400 trans but my question is simple..what will it take to get this done and is it worth it?? I will be using this duall to pull my toy...any insight would be great :)

You will need a flexplate for either the 350 or the 400. 400 is externally balanced, so it is different than the 350's. You will need to run a good tranny cooler. Don't know if there would be one built in to the stock radiator. A good aux. cooler would be needed anyway. The drive shaft will have to be modified. Best bet would be to find a rig w/the same wheelbase & a TH400. Also, with the TH400 you will have to hook up the electronic kickdown switch. If you can't get one w/your donor, B&M sells an add on kit.
