Been working on a IH Scout II for Chris Rudd the last couple of weeks putting a fully built set of rockwell steering axles under it with 44" boggers. Axles are under and complete but the fender trimming and shocks still need finishing. Hopefully tonight we will put a dent in it. The moderator is going to add the pictures, Thanks mod! We are buildig rockwells and they have been cut to have the same ground clearance as dana 44's, knuckles flipped in, 4 piston brake calipers and pinion rotors added. Fully hydraulic steering front and rear. The scout has a LT1-350, 4L60E, and NP205. It is still under construction but chris has plans to enter into the TOR challenge in June.

Tennessee off road challenge. It's not rockcrawling but more of a all day long tough truck challenge.

Todd

The mod should post the pictures soon!

Todd - How wide are the Rockwells with the hubs flipped in? What wheels are you running?

BMSN123

They are 70" from wheel mounting flange to flange.

The wheels I made from a set of chrome 15x10 american racing wheels.

WOW… I like it. Don’t ya think those axles make the tires look small? They are 44’s right:p

Very nice... me likes.. :D
Looks to me as if you extended the wheelbase a little bit to move the tires out of the firewall? What did you use as far as leaf springs go to accomodate the lift and the weight of those axles. I toyed with the idea of using Rockwells on mine, and am still considering switching... having rear steering would be freakin sweet. Also, what're u guys planning on doing as far as fender trimming in the rear?

When you get some action pics... be sure and post em... I'd love to meet up and do some wheelin with that thing one day.... both of us yellow and on 44" Boggers... mines just about 20 inches shorter in the back.. and the wheelbase is extended more out the front... :flipoff2:

We used 53" Chevy truck springs in the rear and 53" (4" lift) truck springs in the front. The wheelbase is 117" and that is stretched some both ways. We are still bouncing around ideas for the fender trimming but probably will not do major butchering until it is drivable and see what it needs. The factory wheel wells have already been cut out and not sure where the rest will come from. May take off from the top of the wheel well and go straight back and around the corner (through the tail light) but not sure yet. Front still needs more cutting.

They are 44" boggers.

Mines far from being done as well... I'm shooting for having it done before June. Got a bunch of stuff I wanna do in June... its killing me not having it done... but its getting closer.

We will probably end up cutting Chris's rear fenders much like yours are cut, Scoutshonor.

Scoutshonor,
We would like to have a shot at building a set of axles just like the ones under Chris's scout for you with the cut bottoms, brakes, steering and it all. Shoot me a email and we can see what you are considering.

who cut these axles? and why leaves, seems like the perfect time for coils? sweet ride though, really imressed

BMSN123

Todd and Bryan cut the axles. It gives them the same ground clearance as a Dana 44 with the same tires. I built these axles complete including my own brake setup with 4 piston wilwood calipers. I flipped the hubs, detroits and centered the rear differential. I originally built these for myself and ended up selling them to Chris to go under his Scout, then ended up installing them. Now I have to build another set for myself.

Chris choose leaves. He toyed with the idea of coilovers but considering the cost and when he wanted to be riding he decided against. The truck should ride fairly smooth (not like coilovers though) because the long springs all the way around are fairly soft. Besides if you go to coilovers with rockwells right away, what can you look forward to? Oh yea BIGBLOCK!!!!

I don't know how this acient thread got revived, last I saw Scoutshonor was selling his Rockwell Scout.

Anyway, If Scoutshonor or Ben W can help, do either of you guys got pics of the oil pan to upper frontdiff clearance on a IH motored scout with rockwells?

Also pics of front driveshaft clearance would be cool. thanks:eek:

I ended up keeping mine... and in fact I should have it on the trails by the end of next weekend.... I'm f@wkin pumped!!!!

Unfortunately, I can't help you out any with clearance pics.... we just built a 349 Stroker Ford motor for mine... and with a small block ford I've got tons of clearance. I never had the stock IH motor in mine w/ the Rockwells...

Sorry I can't help ya much... I'll post pics/video of mine when I get it done and painted!

I'm still running my 345 with the Scout t-19. I have good clearance on the drivetrain. I moved the front axle ahead 15 inches so the Rockwell diff is just under the front cross member but I'm also running 4" Bronco coils in the front and 2" Bronco coils in the rear. My upper control arm on the front is bent to go around the oil pan and the exhaust is run through the dip in the middle of the pan that originally was for the front axle. Hope to have some new pics soon. Waiting on my dual t-case adapter to be fitted together so I can move on to the cage and body panels. Can't wait!

seems like I have heard this before............:flipoff2:

You gonna be in Clayton for Memorial Day weekend, I think we are gonna stay at the state park campgrounds and just wheel what is still legal. FWD is asking a little too much $$ for Frielings that weekend and it will be too crowded to do much full throttle wheelin. Ronny

Ronny,
I've got hotel reservations and everything for memorial weekend.. I'm gonna be ready to go...

Got my motor runnin today... finished transmission work, built rear driveshaft... put yokes on t-case... etc...

If my brakes & steering ram come in I'll have it driving this weekend.. might hit a local place just to thrash it and shake out any bugs...

but i DEFINITELY will be there on mem. weekend... and i don't have a problem with not running the fwd trails... we'll figure somethin out

Sounds good, our whole crew will be camping so you will have to stick around after dark for a little drinkin, hardcore bullshittin, and the mandatory midnight run:D

Damn, if we all show up, it might be a new record for the most scouts in Clayton at one time. I'll be the smallest one too, both of you have rockwells and all I have are these piddly little 60's:flipoff2:

ScoutsHonor
05-01-2003, 12:58 AM
60s... hah :flipoff2:
Been there... done that...

I'm stayin at Clayton Country Inn... so it won't be too damn long of a drunken/broken drive back to camp from the park...

Ronny you interested in a run before that weekend? My pinion brakes should be here next week (hopefully) and I'd like to go to Clayton at least a week or two before the memorial day run just to break it in and work out the bugs so I can actually wheel and not fix broke shit all day long...

Theres nothing really to test it out on up here... lots of mud, and some creek climbing/shit like that.. but no big rocks...

I will probably still be workin on mine that Friday in camp :D, so I probably won't be ready to go any earlier than that weekend. Anyway, something breaks on my junk everytime I take it out so I better play it safe and wait for the big weekend;)

Cool. Chicks dig Booty Fab.

Just remembered, though, going to Hot Springs to compete in the Superlift Rock-N-Roll Challenge. Damnit! We'll have to get together sometime this summer for some carnage.
