: Charcoal Canister ruined?

Well due to improperly installing an aux. fuel tank on a FJ40, I found the charcoal canister was litteraly saturated with gas. I re-ran the vent/return lines and used compressed air to get the gas out of the vent lines. But, the Cruiser still smells like a gas station. Is it possible to ruin the charcoal canister by soaking it? I'm thinking that is the cause. Can I get a new canister somewhere?

TIA

I am not sure if you can get the gas smell out totally, but I suspect letting it slowly air out should cure it. If not, Toyota cars of the same vintage in the pick n pull will have similar canisters and they cost about $4. I have found ones that are identical to the L/C '78 canisters and imagine youd have the same with luck with earlier stuff.... In fact careful searching will net a large amount of interchangable smog parts on the cars...

Yes, if the charcoal canister gets soaked in gas, it is ruined. Get another from the wrecking yard.

NOTE: there have been occurances of saturated charcoal canisters igniting or exploding
