Does anybody know of any sources for instructions, or general information about doing a tailshaft conversion on a nv4500.

I found 1 site about converting a 2wd '92 nv4500, but my 4wd model is quite a bit different and I am unsure about where to get the tools and special sockets required to remove the tailshaft.

I am in the process of fully rebuilding my 93 GM 2wd (just waiting on some of the caged needle bearings in the gears). I am installing a new Dodge 4wd gas 23 spline mainshaft and tailhousing. It is only a little different than a 4wd version. AA's NV4500 book lists the socket PN that is needed. That is the only special tool you'll need, otherwise it's snap rings and pullers. A dial indicator is recommended so you can check endplay of the shaft. Grizzly sells a nice dial indicator set with blow molded case for $20.

There is a GM technician reference manual available that doesn't specifically have teardown, but it has EXCELLENT parts diagrams.

Seriously, the internals are really the same (that's why you can change mainshafts easily).

If you have any questions, just ask.
