I'm getting ready to do a 4.0 head swap on my Jeep. I've looked at all the posts and seems like I must be the only one that is going to use a carb. What I need to know is, how do you put a regular PCV and breather lines in the 4.0 valve cover? The head is off a '91 or '92 Cherokee. The rubber grommets on the valve cover are not installed. A write-up at Jeep-web says you can't buy grommets at the dealer. And if I did get my hands on the grommets, could I put a regular PCV in it. Just trying to get these little things sorted out while the head is at the machine shop. Thanks.

i would take the valve cover to the autoparts store, sit down in the PCV valve and grommet section, and see what fits. you may be able to either find a large diamter PCV valve or a grommet with a hole that needs cut out. it seems to me that when you go during the day (8-5pm, mon thru fri), that the full-time guys (more knowledgeable) are there. i found an Advance Auto where the guys actually enjoy searching the databases and catalogs looking for some misc. part for my junk. i guess they like the challenge. matt

I haven’t been to the auto parts store yet. These holes look just like the hole that the oil cap screws in, only smaller. The factory grommets must screw in I guess. If worse comes to worse, I’ll knock out the tabs and weld an aluminum cutout in it. Just hate to mess up a nice looking valve cover.

I had to replace mine and I picked one up a O'rileys(sp?).

O'Riley's? Where I'm from, that's an Irish bar in Cincinnati. Could get a lot of things in there, just never asked about engine parts.

Hey all. I took the valve cover to the machine shop. They looked it over and said if I grind the tabs off of the holes, a regular PCV grommet will fit in. So that obstacle is history.

Not sure about size issues but I just purchased the CCV gromet from the dealership the other day for my 98 TJ 4.0. Maybe one would work for your cover. It might be worth looking into.
