I just bought a front axle out of a CUCV blazer. The problem I am having is trying to find gears and a spool for it. The driveline place here says it's dana 44 it looks nothing like a dana 44. I say it's a Corporate but just don't know what. Any info on this axle would be appreciated. It is an 8 lug. Or model # so I can order parts for it.

If it's 8 lug it's either not out of a CUCV Blazer or it's been converted to 8 lug. The CUCV K5's had 6 lug corporate 10 bolt axles with 3.08's & open diffs.

There's an axle ID chart on CK5 that may help identify it.

It is out of Blazer I went to see another military blazer and it's an 8 lug also.

It may have been bolted in a Blazer but GM NEVER made an 8 lug K5 (not even for the military).

haven'y had chance to go back and take pics. DOes the GM 10 bolt 8 lug use different internals than the stardard 10 bolt 6 lug such as ring and pinion? WIll take pics friday when I head out to new Mexico tommorow on my way to pick up a cucv K30.

since were on the subject of military chevs, I have an 86 k30 I havent popped the front end apart yet are these usually 30 or 35 spline, open or limited ect if anyone had a link to info on these it would be great. Just to rub it in a bit I picked it up with 50,000 orginal miles on it detroit locker in the rear. and all of that for a small sum of 500.

killer deal.... the front is just a d60. 30spline stubs, 35 spline inners, Open more then likely..... Gearing is most likely 4:10s.

didnt 4;56;s come in the ambulance rigs? i though just the normal CUCV pickups had 4;10's

oh well.

either way you made out like a fucking bandit.

Most CUCV K30's that I know of have 4.56 gears and a gov lock in the back, a GM factory locker, are you sure it is a Detroit???

TRUE CUCV trucks ALL have 4.56's and a rear Detroit (as well as 6.2, TH400 and a 208). A very small percentage of the CUCV's were available with a front Trac Lock diff and a 205 (at the moment I can't remember which model).

There are military owned Chevy K30's (2dr & 4dr, srw & drw) that are not CUCV models, these trucks typically have 4.10's and open diff's. The motor and tranny combos in these varies depending on purpose.

i think the one with the trac lok and the 205 was the ambulance model...

we've picked up several of the military 60's from 2 diff. places and some had the limited slip and some were open--but they all had 35 spline inners and all the rear 14's had detroits in them and 4:56 front and rear.

i guess for the front it's a random thing whether or not it's open or limited slip.

Just my .02 if it helps.

It's not random, there are particular models that get the Track Lock and the 205. If I'm not mistaken, the Track Lock comes in trucks with a shelter carrier (like an ambulance or troop carrier) and the 205's come in trucks that equired a PTO.

FYI - ALL king pin, open knuckle D60's used by GM had 35 spline inners.

The ambulance or M1010 is open and had a 208 t-case. All m1008's have open rfront and 208 The maintenance truck or M1031 has limited slip front and 205. All M1028's have ls fronts the M1028 SRW has the 208. The M1028a2 DRW has the 205 M1028a3 DRW has 208. M1028a1 has the 208 .....all 4.56 gears and all DETROIT NO SPIN lockers in back

Blazers or M1009's ALL have 3.08 gears 10 bolt front and rear. Gov-lok in back open fronts.. all 6 lug...never ever had 8 lug axles as original equipment

yes its a detroit I have 3 14ff to compare it too 2 gov locks one open and the one that paid for the truck with one detroitlocker.
by the way these blazers could have been changed over by the motor pool so they could carry less spares, pretty easy swap,
what rear end is under it.
Then again this guy might not know how to count, short a few fingers or hell he could have a few extras if he lives to close to any nuclear dump sites.
