I just swapped in a 2F in place of the F motor in my 66 FJ40,and I finally have it in road worthy condition. I took it out today and all went good except It did not want to get up to speed. Though I know that they are not known for land speed records I was able to get at least 55 out for the F motor with 3 on the tree. It seemed like everything it had to get to 45, with plenty of pressure from my right foot. The only difference its the motor (which moved the cruiser I took it out of quite well), the 4 speed tranny which came with the motor, and transfer case. Other than that I have only run 32 inch tires and the gearing is the same. I did remove all of the emmissions from the motor, and I piped in a 2 inch exhaust (maybe to large?). If any one can steer me in any direction it would be very helpful.
Thanks
Josh

Did you use the same carb from the F? If so, it may not be getting enough fuel. When I was researching Webers, they recommend a 38/38mm for 2f and a 32/36mm for a F.
Just a thought...
Focus on what was changed or is different between the donor vehicle and yours.
For example, did you get all of the vacuum ports plugged after removal of the emissions stuff? Is the engine missing or otherwise not running good? Is your clutch slipping?
I do not think the 2" exhaust would create this problem.

Exhaust is not an issue. I'm running 2-1/2" on a stock 2F - no problems. Keep in mind that the early vehicles with F engines had 3.73 gearing in the 3rd members whereas the 4speed equiped ones had 4.11s. This will account for some of the difference between the two vehicles. Not to say it shouldn't get up there. My FJ-55 will cruise pretty good at 60 MPH. It will go to 70 MPH but sounds like its painful so I kick back and take it easy.
