Hello to all of you, i have a little question that i thought only somone with some real chevy knowledge could help me with. First of all the engine in question is a 1978 chevy 350. It was used in a v8 conversion for a landcruiser before i bought the truck and now i am having some prblems with it. I am having prblems with the clutch\bellhousing unit. Originally when i got it it had a 10 inch clutch on it. This wasnt a problem and i replaced the clutch one time. Now the problem is that the original owner didnt have they inspection plate on the bellhousing and now i am unable to get one that will fit properly. The Chevy dealer by me is no help, when i went to them they told me that the block was a 71 307. I know that it was rebored to a 350 but have no idea why it is now listed on the paper from engince shop as a 1978. So here is the big question. what vehicle that is a 1978 350 would have a 10" clutch? Am i getting wrong bellhosing? SHould i try to get a 1971 307 housing and cover plate? AS it is now, the plate that the dealer gave me is to big for the bellhousing i have and the dealer says thats the only one they have. Next option, is the bolt pattern and starter location the same for all 78 and earlier 350's? if i was to buy a brand new bellhousing that came with the plate would i have and garauntee of proper fit? The reason i cant get a used plate\bellhousing is all the wrecking yards around me seperate them and dont know what one goes where. Sorry this message is a little unclear, if you need clarification let me know.
i would apreciate anyhelp you can offer.

Kinda need more info on your combination such as what tranny you are running.. If it is the stock Toyota tranny then you may have the AA bellhousing. If that is the case you may have to get the cover from them.. If it is a Chevy tranny then the bell housing could be from a car such as a Camaro,Chevelle,Malibue or even a Monza. That is just a guess based on the small clutch..
If it is a Chevy item and thia dealer isnt helping you I would try a different dealer...If memory serves me right Woodinville is ust North and a little East of Seattle so you should have plenty of dealers to choose from. If you cant find a good one there their is/was one in Puyallup and one in Parkland that I used when I was stationed at Ft Lewis. I dont remember the names but they are easy to find the one in Parkland is right off the highway that runs from Tacoma to Puyallup and the one in Puyallup in on the left side of the main street through town.

thanks for the reply, for clarification i am doing running three speed toyota tranny adapted via an adapter plate between tranny and bellhousing. My only remaining question is whether the started motor would vary from vehicle to vehicle. If not that would be great because i could get complete bellhousing with plate and larger clutch all in one go. Junkyards all have the complete bellhousing w/clutch they just wont take the plate off for me thats my problem. I will also look around, i know there are a ton of chevy dealers around here, i believe there is one that is mainly chevy trucks, they might be a better source of help.
thanks

If i remember right I think my 74 Blazer had a 10" clutch. I had a hell of a time with that thing because I had baught an 11" HD clutch and pressure plate, it was stiff as hell and didnt work right. put the right stuff in it and it worked great.
