yesterday i got my jeep back from the shop. i had 4.88's install in the factory 35c and 30. i took a few small trips around town running errands and stuff to break em. 15 miles or so later i smelt the horrible smell of gear oil burning. becoming alarmed i hit the brakes and pulled over. while pushing the the clutch in around 5 mph and knock it out of gear the ass end tried to lock up on me. i got out to check out the situation and i noticed excess gear oil that was spilt of the housing smoking. i got and tried to move it to check for noise and all i got was a squeeking sound from the rear end. my question here is wtf happened. did i not break em in right or did a bearing sieze up. its back at the shop now but the guy wont call me back to tell me whats wrong.

sounds like he f*d something up. if he doesn't stand behind his work, report him to the BBB. Keep us posted

Newbie Section!
The squeaking was most likely due to lack of lubrication on the ring and pinion. (Ask how I know :shaking: )
Through some lube in it and call it a day.
That D35 you run was cursed since the day it was glued together.

Take it back to WallMart.
sounds like you didn't have enough lubrication in the axle. why else would it be smoking. hopefully the guy doesn't cause you anymore headache

It sounds like improper set up or lack of gear oil....take it back (like you are)
have the guy who installed it fix it...

actually the guy said it was a loose pinion nut. it had somehow backed off. he said he torqued it to spec and used loctite. i checked to oil and it was fine in both axles. the shitty thing about it is.... the fucker is fixed now and they didnt call me to tell me it was done. now the shop is closed and with my keys on the inside and my jeep on the outside.i paid this dude like $428 for labor and i spent somewhere around $425 for gears and install kits, and the jeep has been at his shop for almost 2 weeks now
