: Top Truck Challenge Voting
mudtruck44 02-20-2002, 03:03 PM Well, I have not seen the April Fourwheeler yet but I have been told I am in it. We were having this discussion in a different post so I just figured I would start a new post just for it. I was told other POR trucks are in the voting also. Who has seen the magazine? Are there any killer trucks in this years voting? Let us know if your truck is in the magazine. Here is my truck if you don't know what truck I am talking about.

MattS 02-20-2002, 03:06 PM So what is the going price for a vote these days? :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
dxwwn 02-20-2002, 03:09 PM probly bout tree fitty:D u got my vote by the way
Chad H 02-20-2002, 03:54 PM Damn Loc ness... Got my Vote too, Fawker :flipoff2:
WOLF359 02-20-2002, 04:36 PM I haven't seen the mag yet, but i hear I'm #13.
Here's a pic (not quite together yet, but getting there quick):
http://www.gohumvee.com/pages/2002mods/newcagegamma/Images/3.jpg
I think everyone's seen the specs before, but since were beggin' for votes here:
502 GM Performance Big Block/Custom EFI/Direct ignition, TH400/203/205 doubler, 5.86's, ARB 60 front, Detroit 70 rear, double beadlocks, 44 Boggers, Hydraulic Assist, three link rear/coils. 4 link front/coils.
New this year is the coils in the front, the 203/205 doubler, and the new tube rear end, as well as some changes to the fuel systems, which should make the 500hp 502 work a little better than last year.
You guys both have awsome rigs i would love to see both of you in TTC. Do they allow specators in or am i going to have to sneek in to see it
mudtruck44 02-20-2002, 04:49 PM Wolf 359, That thing is bad ass! If it is not done yet, what did you send in for a picture? I can't wait to see the issue, only a few more days.
mudtruck44 02-20-2002, 04:52 PM I can't stop staring at the picture of your rig. I hope I get to see that thing in person, maybe first week in June. I'll vote for you.

WOLF359 02-20-2002, 05:06 PM Thanks Mudtruck... ditto on your truck. Great looking suspension. Did you do it yourself? Those 44's?
As for the pics the truck about 1/2 way to where you see it now when we had to put the pics in, so I sent a couple from last year. Hope it's not a problem. It looks much the same from the front. :)
Here's one like I submitted:
http://www.gohumvee.com/images/misc/onrock.jpg
As you can see I had some clearance issues in th rear, that's why I tubed it.
Tim
BlueBeast 02-20-2002, 05:50 PM hey, wolf. bad ass rig. you're keeping the 502 i hope! i sure hope they do a better job covering the TTC this year. that stupid bimbo really sucked- and not in a good way. i'd like it better if they show all of the competitors in each event start to finish. and no crappy music, just the sound of big engines and breaking parts!
I want to see the "FLEXY MONSTER" make a comeback.
Remember that silly thing from a few years ago?
I think it was a ford mini van on steroids.
TNToy 02-20-2002, 06:32 PM Wolf and MudTruck both have my votes...
BJ On Roids 02-20-2002, 07:02 PM man i love the monsters!!
what is the story with the TTC?
limited competitors?
what terrains and that sort of thing?

Yeah, I saw your rig. You plasterd it all over my thread!
60seriesguy 02-20-2002, 08:31 PM Wolf, the picture they posted on Four Wheeler doesn't do your truck justice!
They increased the number of rigs this year (I think); looks like the usual mix, some pretty incredible, obviously hard-core wheeling rigs, some poseur rigs, some milder trucks that you know won't make it, and a smattering of POS beaters for good measure!
I'm going to go ahead and predict the ten trucks chosen: a Toyota, a Sammie or two, a full-size, a Canadian truck, a buggie or two, and a bunch of jeeps (including at least two flatties)...this seems to be the formula the past few years...
Alaskan Assassin 02-20-2002, 08:42 PM I have yet to see the magazine either, but have been told that I am #71, The Alasakan Assassin... In the mag it says I have a Dana 44 front and a 9" rear, but all of those have been changed... It now has a High Pinion 60 front and a 60 rear... You guys can go take a look at it here. I would appreciate any votes..
http://www.bigjeeps.alloffroad.com
It is the black CJ-5 on the 37" boggers...
REDDMANIAC 02-20-2002, 09:39 PM you should win the award for the furtest driven FO SHO!
crawlin'YJ 02-20-2002, 10:06 PM I just got the mag today, and have since been drooling over it. I love it when its TTC time!
Wolf yours is #13, and thats one sweet rig!
Mudtruck, you're #28, you need to get a winch so you can run! I've got an 8274 that I'll sell ya' if the price is right.;)
Alaskan Assassin, you're # 71-How does your 44/9in. combo hold up?I want to go close to that route because I'm gonna put a 35" tire limit on my Jeep until I buy a newer one with lower miles (daily- driver) that I can build up big. (put too much money into repairs for my '93 yj 2.5l already) What kind of hard top is that? It looks sweet!
I say we make this year's TTC full of PBB members-You all have my vote!
PS-When you get the mag, look at # 23-It Floats!!! I want that thing to compete!!!!!:p
Bald1 02-20-2002, 10:29 PM Tim you get my vote, that's an awesome machine. Plus you're a local guy:D
Alaskan Assassin 02-20-2002, 10:29 PM Hey crawlin'yj I hate to tell yah, but the 44 and 9" didnt hold up to the 37" boggers. The Jeep now has a High Pinion Dana 60 front and a 60 Rear... With 4:56 gears and locked..... But with the 36" swampers the 44 and 9" did GREAT! The bogger was to much for them though... Thanks for the vote...
Damn, check out how NICE all these vote-hungry politicians are. Guess we newbies don't have to worry about getting flamed by these guys (until the voting is over).
So wolf, mudtruck, alaska, what size lift do I need to fit 31" tires?
Alaskan Assassin 02-20-2002, 11:29 PM I thought you all ready had 31"ers? Well if it were me I would go with like just 2 1/2" lift springs and put like 33"ers on it. I think that would be a good set up... Good Luck:D
Alaskan Assassin 02-21-2002, 12:56 AM http://www.bigjeeps.alloffroad.com/images/jeep.jpg
Well everyone else posted a picture.. So I thought I would throw one on there. This was taken right before the axle swap started. And oh it is a original CJ-5 hard top:D

wngrog 02-21-2002, 05:26 AM WOLF!!! WOLF!!!
We need a Cruiser in TTC, it has been too long :)
YJ4RoX 02-21-2002, 06:11 AM Hey guys dont forget H8Monday is in there this year too, White YJ looking Jeep. Cant remember the #. Also The Fat City Bronco is in it! I believe he goes by Reynolds on this board. We gotta get as many PBB rides in there as we can.
I also think we should vote for the Nissan Patrol from Austrailia, dude even has people willing to fly his Rig over to the US:D Too cool!
white knight 02-21-2002, 06:37 AM Got to ge that list on here.
H8 Monday- for sure he's got my vote. This year he should make it
Alaskan Assasin - were you there last year?
..WOLF359!!!..You got my vote!!..BUT!...You have to promise to kick the crap out of every Jeep there!!!..Give all of us Cruiser owners some bragging rights!!!
Shaker 02-21-2002, 07:02 AM DAMN.....WOLF.....I love the tubework you done!!  Everytime I see that thing i wish I would have kept my FJ40 especially now that I got a set of rockwells! I guess you got the fuel injection operating just right huh? I see that you are switching to coils in the front now....same as you got in the rear? I still want your rims you made....;) :D Got my vote.....Tim/Shaker

ryeguy 02-21-2002, 08:42 AM Haven't seen the magazine, but I'm told I'm in there too. Big white '83 Blazer...

Patman 02-21-2002, 08:55 AM Rob your number #7 assuming your last name is Bryce?

mudtruck44 02-21-2002, 09:00 AM I know a lot of guys don't have the mag yet, but can we get some predictions from those who do. Just tell us the #s of the ten you are going to pick.

Alaskan Assassin 02-21-2002, 09:51 AM I was in the voting last year... I was #9. I never got picked though LOL...:(
Patman 02-21-2002, 10:06 AM Well, I'm gonna vote for everyone on the PBB first, then fill in with what ever looks like it should do well.
Rob I would have never given your Blazer a second look, and now I can't imagine why you shouldn't be in there. Mog's, 44's, and a Caddy BB are a good combo! :D
The one thing I'll say for anyone who gets in, that hasn't paid attention to the last few years, and still has a full top....PROTECT IT!!! The Trap either takes a fullwidth drivetrain and a skinny body or your draggin' your driverside top for a few hundred yards. If you don't care about the damage, cool. That's what BigBlaze did last year, and he took the whole thing. Steve had it, but unfortunatley timed out in the Trap trying to save the body (Not saying thats a bad thing). A simple "top-exo" would be enough, but it's definatley needed.
mudtruck44 02-21-2002, 10:13 AM Can we get a picture of Rob's Blazer on here?
Last year, the guy with the Jimmy lost for one reason. He was too worried about denting up some body panels. If that is your attitude, you deserve to lose. You know what you're getting yourself into when you send in the ballot.
sunshineoffroad 02-21-2002, 10:26 AM hey Jesse, if ya need a spotter to ride with ya in the big orange yota, I'll be there with bells on. You got my vote too! Justin
mudtruck44 02-21-2002, 11:53 AM Thanks Justin, HPMSO top truck challenge will be April 20th. Will you have your truck in it again?
Alaskan Assassin 02-21-2002, 12:09 PM What is that mudTruck? It is going to take place April 20 this year? That early?
white knight 02-21-2002, 12:17 PM That doesn't make sense.
It's usually in June
mudtruck44 02-21-2002, 12:24 PM Sorry to confuse you guys. I was asking someone if they were entering in a local TTC in Michigan on April 20th.
Sorry if I confused you guys.
Alaskan Assassin 02-21-2002, 12:30 PM Thank GOD! I was like WHAT!  LOL :D I was talking to Jim Piatt though and he said that it may be in late May to early June... So a little different than the other year...
welndmn 02-21-2002, 12:59 PM If anyone needs a spoter i am very familer with Hollister hills :D

Where at in Michigan. I might want to go. What does it take to enter? What kind of an event?
sunshineoffroad 02-21-2002, 02:22 PM Jesse, since I won last year, I should probably be there to defend my title. Hope the lil 10 bolt front can take it again!
heavymetalrob 02-21-2002, 04:14 PM i belive my friend jessie will be in also. you can see his rig @ http://www.mta4x4.com/MOV00077.MPG if the link doesn't work go to http://www.mta4x4.com/html/frolic_info.html and loof for a link that says "jessie in mud pit"
Patman 02-21-2002, 04:26 PM I'm sure Jessie will be working recovery, but he didn't make the voting.
mudtruck44 02-21-2002, 04:50 PM I just watched that clip of the mud pit. He made it through without spinning the tires much. Actually looked easy?
Ultim8kaos 02-21-2002, 05:00 PM Gang,
Just joined the PBB and was following the TTC topic. I don't have the mag yet and was wondering if my pig made it in.
www.superford.org/?vID=210 If it is in the mag and you think it's worthy, I would definitely appreciate any and all votes. An all PBB TTC.......hmmmmm...COOL
Steve
Patman 02-21-2002, 05:00 PM The pit is kind of misleading. For TTC they usually dump 20+ yards of fresh loose dirt in it, and then fill it to within a foot or two from the top with water. The rest of the year (including MIYE) it's usually just a foot or so of mud under a couple of feet of water. MOst of the time, 39.5 Boggy's and a bigblock will spank the pit, Jessie with his 44's and his slightly heavy foot rarely have a problem. Last year he attempted the pit during TTC after the competitors did, and didn't make it. Or so I'm told by several people who saw it first hand.
Paul Gagnon 02-21-2002, 05:16 PM Good luck Tim and Rob. I hope you get in. Go Canada!

I wouldn't believe everything you read in the magazine. Just because they print that Stephen spent too much time trying to save his body, doesnt mean that's the full story. While he may have spent SOME time trying to save the body, i doubt that's the ONLY reason he lost. Stephen chalked it up to also making some mental mistakes that cost him a lot of time. He knew exactly what he was getting into, and has never once blamed his mistakes on anyone but himself. AND, if you saw the green Jimmy up close i think you would find that it has a few more dents than it seems in the pics.....
Patman 02-21-2002, 07:33 PM Hopefully Steve will come on here and give his side of the story. But bottom line he lost the whole thing in the Trap.
When faced with unavoidable body damage, he went as far as to accidentally pull down a small tree, trying to side winch to get away from it. They said that it was nothing compared to some of the things they have done in the past to save the body. Even after the FW crew pushed them (not literally) to get it out of the way, so that the other competitors could go, they still took a while to get it moved.
I can't blame them for trying to save it, I probably would do the same, but I can't see entering a competition, knowing what your in for, and backing down.
The fact that it isn't as prestine as it looks in some of the pics, just makes it that much worse.
Bottom line, if you enter TTC expect carnage, if your ready for it, and jump in with both feet, cool.

Yeah fawkers, Steve Rickard's rig is reportedly #55 and it's sweet: '78 Bronco w/built 400, D70 rear, D60 front w/35 splines throughout, ORD doubler, full hydro steer, 42" TSL's..... please put it on your list to vote for!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bluesman2a 02-21-2002, 10:16 PM Not in it personally, but one of the guys in our club is. Entry #10 Patrick Callahan. He fully gets it AWN.
http://www.southernjeeps.org/mrigs/patcall1.jpg
One correction, since the application, he's gone Atlas instead of the 300.

yeah he didn't make it. he tried it in 1st gear. if he did it in 2nd he would have made it, no prob.
Jayrockn7 02-21-2002, 11:51 PM well I'm voting on unique rigs that look well engineered and have stout-ass drivetrains, plus some of you guys on here I gave a pick like you, Jeff. Jeff has a nice jeep but I don't think it can handle the tank trap, I'd like to see him try though! So here are my votes going in order from lower to highest (not my personal choice); 7, 13, 18, 21, 28, 31, 33, 36, 54, 67. Hope I don't piss anyone off on here for not voting for them, but I picked the ones I thought would be more fun to watch.:flipoff2: ;)
Go Canadian pirate4x4 members! I heard there's even a dude from Abbotsford (my teeny town an hour outside of Vancouver) in there with a 79 Bronco! good luck to everyone!

Anyone got any info on this guy just curious as to who it is.
mudtruck44 02-22-2002, 05:38 AM Can we get a sticky for this post? I am sure everyone wants to see POR trucks at the TTC. I doubt we will be able to have POR stickers on our trucks but we could wear T-shirts or something.
Joe_W 02-22-2002, 06:23 AM I love that theres an Australian entry and an entry from Israel. Thats too cool :)
H8monday 02-22-2002, 11:01 AM Yep, thats my rig, number 36. A few people E mailed me photos from the magazine.
I didnt even remember sending anything in, but Kathy said she talked to me about it, and I kinda remember her asking me a bunch of questions about the heep, and what I was planning on swapping by spring time.
In any case, if I get the votes Ill compete, but past voting has shown that big blocks and 44" tires are what the voters are looking for, so Im sure not gonna lose sleep over it.
H8monday

YES i loved the FLEXI VAN. that thing was funny as hell to watch!
TNToy 02-22-2002, 07:08 PM My definite votes so far:
13 - Wolf359 - 502 + FJ = :cool2:
23 - It may suck everywhere else. I don't care. I just wanna see something floatin' in the Tank Trap.
28 - 4Link + 44s + Toyota, nuff said.
18 - Nissan Patrol. Again, nuff said.
54 - Fat City Tube Bronc.
67 - Israel Tube thingy
48 - FJ with marlin crawler shiznit.
Others I'm considering for the rest of mine: 7, 55, 26, 36, and about a dozen others...
YJ4RoX 02-24-2002, 09:42 AM Here is the info in Nissan Patrol:
Mark Cheeseman, Melbourne, Victoria, Aust.
89 Nissan GQ Patrol:
383 V8, TCase Nissan with 3.6 Rockhopper gears, Nissan axles with ARB's & 4.60 gears.
37x13 boggers on aluminum Beadlocks.
He has a plate on the ARB bull bar that says"CHEEZY"
I know the TTC is "closed" to spectators (liability and such), but if any of you guys get picked, let us know the dates of the competition. I've managed to watch a couple of days of competition in the past. The mag guys were fine with it, as long as you were respectfull, and kept yourself out of the way of the filming/judges/competitors.
If anyone needs a co-pilot, I'd be happy to be your spotter/winch monkey and I only live ~40 minutes away (= hot shower and comfy bed).
Also, if you are planning to compete, it would be worth the time and $$$ to check out the videos of years past so you don't make the same mistakes everyone else does and you can start thinking about strategy.

Ultim8kaos 02-24-2002, 03:33 PM Hey guys,
I got my issue of fourwheeler and my Bronc did make it in for the voting. It is truck #55 and I sure would appreciate votes! I am ready to go and do some damage in Cali! The Bronc is already sitting on the 42's and waiting to go just as soon as I get the 203 range box back from WMS. I am having the 3.6:1 gearset installed!
Steve
mudtruck44 02-24-2002, 03:42 PM I went to Illinois this weekend and finally found the April issue. It is so hard to pick the ten toughest. I voted based on what I thought would make it and what should make it. Heres my list-
#10 - pictured above on this page, says he is getting 42's
#12 - Flat fender with 44's
#13 - Bad ass
#28 - It's my truck
#31 - Sniper clone
#36 - Looks well built, trail ready
#48 - Good crawl ratio, FJ-40 with 42's
#53 - Scout with 454, 44's, 60's, good flex
#54 - Looks like they spent $100k building this
#67 - 2-1/2 tons, 44's, 4 wheel steer, 4-link
Before anyone gets mad that I did not pick their rig, I am picking the ten that I think will get the most votes. A lot of the trucks I did not pick look very tough and trail ready, but voters go for big tires and V-8's. I will be sending a lot of ballots in so I am definitely putting the POR guys on my ballots.
mudtruck44 02-24-2002, 03:59 PM Here are a few trucks you won't see at this years TTC-
#11 - Super tough Toyota, but Mickey Thompson's? Sup widat?Good luck in the mud.
#15 - I like everything except the huge chrome wheel covers.
#35 - Looks tough with the O.D. green paint but accesorized the tough paint job with ugliest possible aluminum wheels.
#43 - Special features include a 9" body lift. I think I would have kept quiet about that.
#60 - Zebra stripes. GRRRRRR
#68 - Take the Jeep off the trailer before you take the picture.
I better stop before I piss someone off.
white knight 02-24-2002, 04:16 PM I haven't made up my mind on the 10 but these are the ones I will vote for so far
My first vote will definately go to my wheeling Bud Wolf.
#13
#67- from Israel looks like some good competition
#54- another good one that's got my vote
#7- that K5 has my vote
#28- like this toy
#39-
#12-
still working on the rest
mudtruck44 02-24-2002, 04:22 PM I looked at #7 and thought it sounded bad ass. I would say it would go for sure except, why does he have Dick Cepek's? I know he is a POR member so maybe he will be able to explain.
Alaskan Assassin 02-24-2002, 04:57 PM HMMMM..... #71?:D

That makes my day :)
Your mudtruck looks way sick!I hope you get voted in ;)
mudtruck44 02-25-2002, 07:03 AM Just checked out your site, JR. I really like the Bronco. Looks better without the doors on though.;)

Why Dick Cepeks? Why not? Great snow tire, and I'm in Canada. :) That said, I may try to borrow a set of TSL's if I make it into the TTC.
So far, I'm very happy with the Cepeks. Better street manners than the 36 inch SX's on my previous 4x4. And work great on the trail. Just no big side lugs to grab at stuff.
Pics of it can be found at:

mudtruck44 02-25-2002, 11:41 AM O.K., that thing is pretty sweet. I can understand Dick Cepeks in the snow, that is what they use for Iceland. I hope you make it. Just make sure you bring the swampers with you for the mud.:D
Pdaddy 02-25-2002, 12:54 PM I voted for the portal axle blazer also, but you better not be scared to dent it, it is nice, but TTC is all about carnage, you better be gettin it if you get chosen!

Try to borrow? I would beg, borrow, or steal a set of TSLs or Boggers if I knew my truck was heading to TTC.
I think the bogger would be my pick, though, since the events have such a large bias toward mud, Although the sidehilling capabilites of the TSLs would be nice in the off-camber prition of the tank trap.

dumplin 03-09-2002, 09:54 PM TTC winner 2002, Fat City Bronco . This thing seems like the perfect setup for Hollister . S***load of power, diff clearance ,flex
and tall tires . I attended TTC 2001 and the big , bad Burb was just that . My cousin competed w/ the s- 10 hybrid and did well with a 4th. place finish . Whoever gets picked this year will be in
for a great week of awesome wheeling . All the people are awesome and the obstacles are wicked as hell . I'd seen previous
years TTC and video and pictures don 't do Hollisters Hills justice .
If any of you guys here get picked ,good luck and be wary of pigs
in your camp ! Just a newbies .02 worth .
