jeeper01ca 02-20-2002, 08:06 PM Need to see some pictures and get ideas about show and shine events from all of you, It's the event that we (off road club members) show our trucks to people and have a ramp, then each one gets to score on it. I need to have more ideas and picture please.

jdjanda 02-20-2002, 10:34 PM LOL

Thanks for the laugh I needed it.
I have a chrome diff cover, uh and my lugs are chrome, think I'll have any chance for a trophy? I heard the chrome helps on the ramp too.
Okay, so at best this is a Chit-Chat subject, and it's from a phuckin' newbie (welcome :flipoff2: ), on the other hand, the dude wants to promote the sport.
So, here's what I would propose for show N shine classes (though it's not quite what we use here):
Every vehicle goes into one of the following "classes"
-Full-Size GM (Trucks, 'burbs, Blazer, Tahoe, Escalade, etc.)
-Full-Size Ford (F-series, Expedition, Excursion, '78 or newer Bronco)
-Full-Size Mopar (Pickups, Ramcharger, Trailblazer)
-Jeep CJ/YJ/TJ
-Mini-Truck (Toyota T-100 or smaller)
-Compact SUV (Durango or smaller)
-Best of The Rest (includes:International, full-size Jeep, Toyota Tundra & Sequoia, Pre '78 Bronco, Land Rover, Range Rover, Land Cruiser, Commandos, Willy's pickups & utilities, military vehicles, vehicles not available as 4wd, homebuilt buggies, etc.)
Each of the above "classes" gets a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place trophy. Special awards (one trophy each) would be as follows:
-Competition (rock buggies, mud racers, etc)
-Custom (custom fab work)
-Best Paint
-Best Graphics
-Best Undercarriage
-Best Current Body Style (must be able to purchase this truck new today)
-Best Classic
-Best Stereo
-Best Engine Compartment
-Best Interior
-Under Construction
-Daily Driver (Radial tires, mild lift, "practical" modifications)
-Work Vehicle (good setup for towing, hauling, etc, don't necessarilly deduct for dents & scratches)
-Best "Trail Trophy" (worst dent, tear, or other off-road "boo-boo")
-Most Trail Worthy
-Bulletproof
-Ugliest 4X4
-Best Club Participation
-Best Club Display
-Grand Champion
The above should give you plenty to appease the chromeheads as well as the rockheads who really SHOULD put their machines on display if they want to help promote their sport (ARCA/CALROCS/etc guys in particular should "show" their vehicles in an attempt to build SPECTATOR INTEREST in their sport, hint hint).

Shaker 02-21-2002, 07:08 AM He REALLY didn't say "Show & Shine" did he???? I have been considered a "Show Truck".......Man he's gonna get cooked.... :D
newbie.......:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
tulsa_jeeper 02-21-2002, 07:58 AM He must have clicked on the wrong bookmark. This is not JU.
WARNING: Consumption of alcohol may lead you to think people are laughing WITH you.
EBSTEVE 02-21-2002, 08:22 AM I show my Bronco every time I get pulled over I show it to the cop!
jasonmt 02-21-2002, 12:05 PM I don't know - my flat black rattle can over rubberized rockerguard might blind you with it's shinyness :flipoff2: the only part shiny on my truck is the fresh scratches. Maybe you can get WOLF359 to bring a Hummer - he put on a real good ramp show with one last spring in Calgary.
aaronlosey 02-21-2002, 01:00 PM uh oh, time to change the ol screen name again.

:D Yup, it's necessary though. My promoter has been having show n shine competitions at my mud races. And the chromeheads who are in charge of coming up with the divisions for the show trucks have only 1 award that appeals to the guys who don't normally show their truck - most bulletproof. So, I had to put some thought into it & come up with something better. BTW, they actually had me judge at a show last year  What a joke that was. Good thing there were only about 25 trucks to look at :D:D

That old song that goes. (singing) Blinded by the light

The toyota Forum would have deleted this post within ten minutes.

Mel85CJ 02-21-2002, 02:42 PM Our club held our first annual "Jeepfest" last year, and we will hold it agin this year August 25th. We had a little Jeep course with a small mud hole, mini off-road course, RTI ramp and a couple other obstacles.
We also had judging, which was judged by the attendees. The categories were:
Best in Show
Most Vintage
Most Trail Ready
Ugliest
www.hrja.org is our website

Once again, those shows are the perfect opportunity to spread the word about things like GUMBO, NMRO, ARCA, CalRocs, and such. You rockhounds need to quit poking fun at the chromeheads and learn how to USE them ;)

EasyXJ 02-21-2002, 04:09 PM I've got a "Most Thrashed XJ" award from my club.
So If I come, can I say that I've already been awarded and should be judged on my past merits?

Paul Gagnon 02-22-2002, 09:34 PM Boy there sure are alot of chromophobics on this message board. :flipoff2:
 I think TEX is right, use show and shines to promote the sport, I also agree that this might be better as a Chit Chat topic. However I do remember there being threads about show and shines in here before(except nobody ever tried to explain to us what they were before  ).
