Talked with Big Rich a lot at EJS and he was struggling with getting sponsorship just as always and could not justify keeping the finals event in Texas when so much money {spectator money } is going to be available in Columbus. The dates he had were incompatable with us @ K-Rocks but during our talks this place came up in Ohio and it was too good for Rich to turn down. Money wise it was the best for both of us. Super Crawl had 14,000 spectators on the 2 day event. On our best weekend we had 2,000 and the last event bout 300. there is just so much more money to be made in the Arena setting in a big city. And we were not showing the #'s of spectators they needed.

Rich and I also talked about having WEROCK sanctioned series @ Katemcy. We will form this to meet the wheelers peferences in TEXAS. And in the classes that we have that will meet the WEROCK classes, those placing competitors will have a chance to be in a regional finals. Those regional finals winners will be able to go to the WERock finals. Ther are currently other Off Road Parks in the midwest that are going to do the same. We will follow rules for the WEROCK events and be Judged on their rules.
Their will be a 4-class , one day, and 6-course event. We must have 10 competiors to have a class. proposed classes are:

Stock class: no more than one locker, stock body-frame-axles-motor-tranny-transfercase-suspension and 33and under tires.

Legends class: Stock body panels-frame-stock like suspension and 36 and under tires.

Modified class: anything goes not sure exactly on rear steer issue but that will come later.

XXL class: wil be a width minimum and 44 and up tires. Same issue on rear steer.

Will have more details soon on other issues. Will talk with Big Rich this week hopefully in a quieter enviorment.

First event will be on Memorial Day Weekend.

Courses will be technical oriented not a carnage fest. They will be tough though.

Price will be 100 dollars or less.
No pay back on prize money.
Big ass trophy. See the Tracy Jordan interview in Extreme Off Road Mag.
T-shirt for spotter and driver. exclusive to the competitors.
Judges will get t-shirt exclusive to judges.
Meal for judges and teams.

Second event will be in Late July or early Aug and third event will be the KIK weekend.

Oh yeah Jeep Safari was a blast

Why dont you make it the same rules as every series instead of making your own rules that have different specs and regulations? As you have it now, competitors that run different series other than this one will have to change their cars just to comply.

Props on starting this, TX needs it.

RICH WHY ARE WE CHANGING THINGS SO MUCH. It is going to be hard as it is to do all the travel for the series. But everytime we turn around you are moving crap around. You are not give us any of the spectator money anyway The only think we have here is a west and north. I'm so glad that I built this buggy to do the east grap.

Glad to see this happening in Texas.

MoROC is running damn near the same 4 classes and running werocks event rules too.

The 4 'different' classes is up to the promotors of each area. We must build our classes to comply with our local 4x4 communities. They are our target future competitors. We anticipate other teams will travel to compete in our events the same, but we are persuading more rockcrawlers to come out of the wood works and make this sport step up to the next level. Most people would consider this as a grass roots program. Working from the ground up feeding into each other...

I atleast suspect k-rock and moroc are on the same page.

Well mainly these are what we have the most of in Texas. We put in the 33 and under stock class to get more people interested in the comps. We are lacking interest here. Crap at Disney there were 100 rigs there that could compete but they just came to watch and the same thing happens here! If we can get them to compete in any form then maybe they will move on to the Majors. This is a regional event. I don't predict many of the winners traveling to Columbus to be in the finals but if they want to the option is there. You might have to borrow some tires to change your rig to meet there classes but thats all. we also want to get people in the mind that you don't have to have a $50,000 buggy to compete. Our main emphasis will be on the legends class. there are a worlds of those here in Texas and I want to get them to go between the cones and get the rush. I like the competitions if I was intrested in just the money then they would be out . They take way to much time and you have to call in favors to get judges to help etc. There is no money in them at this level . Ask Rich. I would bet that we don't get 10 in every class. If we don't then I can say we tried and call everybody here pusses. Then I can load up the Tator and travel to Moab and Farmington a couple times a year and compete myself.

Big ass trophy.

Not that anyone is in this for the $, but having an entry fee & zero payback could be asking for trouble. You're gonna have to keep it below $50, probably below $30 IMO if it's trophies only (even if they are nice ones like you describe). As cheap as $100 sounds compared to a UROC entry, it was still the biggest gripe I heard from the guys who SHOULD have competed at Disney but didn't.

As far as rules go, you definitely need to keep the locals in mind. But, as you're tailoring the classes to them you can tweak things just a bit so that if a traveling competitor does show up, they have somewhere APPROPRIATE to run. Doesn't have to be exactly like UROC or anyone else IMO. Just close enough that those guys "fit in" if they show up.

Since you wrote this we have talked...

But for those that want to know. If the competitors will show, we would run a central series, but we have to go where the competitors and the spectators are. Spectators pay our bills. Hotels, fuel, INSURANCE, toilets, daily costs such as food and water/drinks, phones, etc.... Without the spectator $'s we could not afford to put on events.

We could put on events anywhere, as long as 3 things happen. First we need to have rocks on property that we can use, Second we need competitors to show up and run so there is something to run for, and Third we need spectators to show up and watch the competitors drive over the rocks so we can pay the bills.

It's a nasty circle.

Also, I hope you did not build the new rig just for one event in TEXAS :D

Right now Dennis, your one of the few that will be running at a National Level from your area. Stick with it as long as you can, and remember that it also means there are less teams competing for your regional sponsor $$$$'s

First of all K-Rocks is a for profit venture. If you sit down and figure what 12-15 judges , 80- 100 competitors T-shirts and meals cost. 12 nice trophies and our usual fee, it's gonna be 80- 100 per team.

I can get lapel pens that say first place and feed everybody Ramen noodles and cheezy T-shirts charge 30 dollars and those guy's from Disney will still sit on the outside and say " thats too much, courses are too hard, the cones are too short, my spotters Tatoo hasn't healed but my rig can kick all their ass easy". Money was not the problem. We're gonna have fun and get a rush at the same time with good food, Cool T-shirts and big trophies. If you haven't noticed this ain't no poormans sport.

Whats so out of line bout the classes? Modified stock {Legend} is almost the same except the tire size is 36 instead of 35. A traveling competitor is not going to enter because these local wheelers got 1 inch bigger tires? Modified is anything goes. How do you "tweak" that. Come on sign up for the comp and show your stuff or sit on the side with the Disney crowd.

No problem with that & didn't realize that entry included shirts & food.

Well, you could be onto something there. You'll always have a certain percentage of folks who would rather pretend to be the bear of the woods than to put it on the line in front of spectators & prove it (or disprove it). Still, it's just my opinion that $100 is kinda high.

Never said anything specific about the rules, just offering up general advice. To be honest, I don't know much about UROC rules, & I didn't really look at yours. To me, having a 36" class instead of a 35" class is exactly as I suggested. It's not "exactly" like UROC, but it's close enough that their regulars should fit in just fine. Oh, and I don't rock-crawl, so if I show up I'm definitely sitting in the crowd like I did at Disney :)
