sorry if this is newb question but im in a jam. i got a coolant leak from behind the timing cover on my 93 f350 with the 460 in it. before i tear into this, what can i expect? is there freeze out plugs behind there? or am i screwed? this is gonna piss off the wife when i woof down easter dinner and tear ass into the garage to get it done. :mad3:

Nope, no freeze plugs back there. One of my 460s leaked in the same area. The timing cover just has passages going through it for the water pump inlet and outlet. Mine leaked between the block and cover right next to one of the water passages. Just check out the cover really well while it's off. Sometimes they get corroded and thin, causing leaks.

If you hadn't planned on it already, It'd be a good idea to replace the front crank seal while you have the cover off.

Yep... usually just those seals that blow out.

But you might save yourself some trouble in the short run by putting a can of Bar's in it. My 302 had a big leak from the same spot... didn't want to tear it all down, considering the motor wasn't going to be in there much longer. Stopped the leak, and it's still going strong.

Try Alumaseal, the solid kind in the tube not the liquid. A tube of that should be good for sealing that up for quite a while. It will take a lot less time. You just pour it into the radiator and let the motor run for a while so it can all flow to the leak. I'm sure it's a very similar product to the stuff Saf-T Scissors is talking about.
