Folks are doing a fair job of conviencing me that I could get better fuel milage out of my 302 (originally out of a 1970 Mustang) if I converted to fuel injection.

Currently I have a 500 cfm Edelbroch AFB clone on a performer manifold.

Will stock 5.0 FI units out of a wrecking yard bolt to a 1970 302? Are there gottchas in the conversion? things to look for? Things to avoid? I know absolutely nothing about FI.

This is an engine lives mostly between 2000 & 2800 RPM and seldom sees more than 3000 RPM.

Informed opinions? Experiences?

To FI or not to FI? That is the question. Getting better fuel milage is a far nobeler thing than frequent fuel stops.

ditching the edlecrap for a holley will bring the mileage up some, but efi mght bring it up more.

Whats the motor in now, and what kinda mileage are you getting?
putting on a mustang setup is the easiest way to go if you want efi.
BUT, efi isn't neccisarily the miricle fix for mileage..

eg;
My 89' F-150 got 13mpg 100% stock with a efi 302. Once I put 34x9's under it, I droped to 8mpg. Once I put a 351W with a 600 holley on it, I got 14.. With 35x12.5's, it dropped to around 12.5

My 84 BroncoII got 20mpg with ease going down the highway, with a mildly built 302, and a 600 holley.
A properly tuned carb will never get the mileage of a properly tuned efi setup, but you can come close. However, Neither are all that common.
clear as mud?
