Hey everybody,
I was wondering what would be the best engine swap on a 1979 Blazer with a 350, I am completely rebuilding this thing from the ground up and I want to start with the engine. I have a carburated 350 in it right now and I want to get a buy a 454 and put that bad boy in there and I was wondering if anybody may know how much it would cost to get a 454 installed in a k-5. Well thanks for everything.

For a crate 454 I hope you have a big ass piggy bank.
A salvage yard one around here is $1000 and another $500 if you do not have a core.
Then there is the tranny issue, even a bone stock later one with peanut port heads is gonna be hell on a TH350.
You will need a TH400 or an sm465 to make a reliable rig.
Then there is the cost of upgrading a 454.
Everything is almost twice as much. But the payoff in the end is well worth it.
Just to put the 463 out of my 73 into my K5 I am lookin at roughly $1200.
But I am redoing the top end minus the heads.
But to do it right I realy need to tear it down and rebuild the whole thing.
Now I am lookin at a crank(forged steel) .060 over pistons and a bunch of other goodies for the bottom end.
And if I go this route I might as well toss on a set of Merlin heads for a paltry $1200.
But hey what is money when it will be pushin over 500 ponies and at idle will have around 500ftlbs of torque?
I will have to see what shakes out with it all.
I can build 2 bad ass small blocks for the price of the BB.
But everone has a small block and I have 2 454's. :D

Get a 383. Retain all your parts from the 350 except the crank, fly wheel, and balancer and still get the torque of a BB. Personally I would rather have more traction than power. Power breaks all my shit.
