30 spline: fairly common
35 spline: less common

From my limited searching. The Jeep ones were the ones with 35 spline and the ones in the IH Travelall have the 30 splines.

Mopar musclecars ; usually 23 spline. about the right width for a jeep. mine is 61'

1969-1975 IH T-all's and Pick ups may have a 5x5.5" D-60-2 SF @ 64". It was an upgrade from the d44.

If you get just a regular Dana 60 front you can E-Zly make it a 5 on 5.5... And the back is even E-Zer... Go to this wed site and it tells you how they made there front. I did the same to my front 60... http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/2001/hpd60front/ That site there will tell yah how to do the front... And the back all you do is get a full floater rear and cut the spindels off of it and weld 9" Big Bearing ends on it and put 35 splined 9" axles in it... Hope this helps...

I believe they were used sporadically up to roughly 77. Ford 1/2 tons used the 9', a 5 lug 44 and a 5 lug 60, all depending on the application. I have not noticed a set in stone rule for when they used what. *usually* the heavy half had a 60 but not always. It's a ford thing...

Why couldn't the rear hubs be turned as well?

Yeah, but I could buy 5 60 rear truck axles and cut em down for the going rate on a 60 from a mopar ;)

yep, i've actually got one of those rare mopar muscle 60's, not complete though. so even if i went with the 30 spline would this be a worthy upgrade of my 9 and 1/4?? i believe it already has 30 spline (tapered??) shafts. real weak point i see is the c clip design, and limited to a 4.56 ratio. i want 5.13's!!:) thanx for the info so far!

Some of the Dodge trucks from the late 67 to 71 used the D60 with a 5 on 5 1/2 as well as the previously mentioned IH-- big Jeeps-- and Fords
