: dodge truck site
RufusTheRam 02-21-2002, 02:53 AM not sure if this is ok, apologies if it's out of place... i know some sites don't like advertising of others. ya'll may want to check out www.dodgetrucks.org , it's a fairly new site and we need some more 4x4 guys over there!
I don't know how they feel about poaching around here, They got a s**tload of members in pirate but not many here on the dodge board, moparts has to be the biggest mopar site.
drnut 02-21-2002, 07:51 AM Thankx for the info i already registed and put it in my favorites list
NECKSTER 02-21-2002, 08:38 AM I have no problem with you letting people know of another outlet for information. We are all just trying to learn the most we can to have the most fun. :D
RufusTheRam 02-21-2002, 03:37 PM ok, thanks! just don't want anyone to think i was trying to steal members from here since i'm a mod there, i'm just in it for the learning and sharing too, figured that'd be another outlet for the dodge folks here! we're actually the "bad child" so to speak of moparchat.com, they throw a fit anytime any other board is mentioned and even have most censored so you can't post a link.
Last time I looked in mopar chat it was dead, overmoderation I'd guess. Under moderation and flame wars will kill a board too, the dallas mopar board comes to mind also from about 3 years ago the old moparmuscle board. moparts is the top mopar board but the truck info gets lost in a hurry.
mtndewmaniac 03-17-2002, 02:48 PM Thanx for the dodge website info. I'm torn between makes here.
I'm hoping that I don't upset or offend anyone here, but the jeep site, they think they're gods there.
I own a 84 Jeep XJ, came factory with the Chrysler 904. I have towed a 49 flattie, 3000lb trailer, both from Vernal, Ut. to Fort Collins, Co. I've wheeled the hell out of it and the tranny has never failed yet.
Heres what I'm doing. I have given some thought into transplanting a bigger engine into my XJ, and I feel the chevy SB is over used. So is ford. Been pondering into dropping in a 318, or a magnun 5.2L. I feel they have a very good power-to-weight ratio. Owned a '63 D100 with the 318, and it fawken ran awesome. Also had a '72 B100 with the same motor. It too ran like theres no tomorrow. I'm VERY happy with dodge, as my family has a history with them.
Anyway, back to the story.
I would like to drop in all-dodge components into the XJ, (since chrysler owns jeep anyway) and I'm looking into info on slushbox output shaft size, spline count, years of usage. Found a thread that explained the A727 and xfer cases used.
Thanx in advance, and sorry I mentioned jeep, but that's what I own, and would like to use all dodge stuff underneath, not just the slushbox. :goofball:
Pavemen 03-17-2002, 03:46 PM The Chevy stuff will be cheaper and easier to locate overall. But it is nice to keep the MOPAR power going in any Chrysler product...
mtndewmaniac 03-17-2002, 04:11 PM Thanx for your reply, paveman. I live 45 miles (if that) from a wrecking yard where I can get ANY V8 engine for $150.00, yes that price was correct. Car trannys for $61.00 + $20.00 core, truck trannys for $84.00 + $30.00 core, and Xfer cases for $125.00 + $50.00 core. Since this is a salvage yard that recycles, they impose a core charge on some parts so that they can get your old junk for scrapping. AND they have a THIRTY day warranty on all of their stuff except electrical.
AND I wish to thank you for all of your input into the bulletins, I've been learning alot about Dodge products, been awhile since I been around them. Costs should be of little concern to do something right the 1st time.
Nows to find someone who has done a 318 swap out of a Dodge, maybe even the 5.2L from the Grand Cherokee.
:rasta:
RufusTheRam 03-18-2002, 02:54 PM good luck with your swap, we're in the beginning stages of dropping a 5.2 magnum into a 99 trooper. same reason as you, wanted some originality plus the magnum has the simplest fi setup, etc. of the big 3 from 99 to present.
kerryphillips 03-18-2002, 05:32 PM Hey mtndewmaniac,
if your doing a transplant, why not look at transplanting a Cummings 4BT diesel into it?
I have begun to hang out on the turbo diesel registry since I bought my 2001 Cummings 4x4 and there is a post over there right now about that engine being transplanted into a Dakota.
I have been looking for a good medium sized diesel for a transplant into my Scrambler,,,I just found it, and as soon as I can afford it, thats exactly what I'm gonna do,
still researching it though....on the same post theres also a guy thats already transplanted one into his TJ and loves it...anyway, just a thought..

mtndewmaniac 03-18-2002, 06:08 PM The Cummins 4BT. sorry i'm not too familiar with it. May I ask what these came in (dodge of course) but about what year range. Dakota by chance? I'll have to take a lok at the turbo diesel registry. Maybe they can also answer as to what tranny(s) came behind them.
A friend had mentioned to me to drop in a diesel, wasn't sure of which one. Of course ANY beefier engine dropped into the XJ unibody will require intense mods done to strengthen the frame rails.
I'll toss this idea around.
Thanx for the info.:)
jeenjer 03-18-2002, 06:46 PM I'd say go with the duramax but you'd go broke just with reinforcing the frame for that puppy, I like the I6 cummins idea but you'd pobably have the same problem plus the U-Pull-It yard doesn't usually have these. Haven't seen any 4 banging desiels either, but have seen quite a few 6.2 chevs go through. but with that as your option for a desiel you should just stick with the 318. :usa:
kerryphillips 03-19-2002, 05:59 AM Apparently the 4BT (which is a 4 cylinder engine) is the exact sme engine as the 5.9ltr (6BT) 6 cylinder they put in the Dodge pickups, same size cylinders, etc, they just sliced off 2 cylinders...
They seem to be used for the most part in delivery trucks like the step vans (Frito Lay trucks, etc.)
They use either dodge drivelines or chevy drivelines..so you could put an NV4500 behind it, or a Chevy SM465 behind it, or an automatic that has a similar bolt pattern if you are into automatics....
hope this helps, there is probably more info on the TDR web site Turbo Diesel Registry (http://www.turbodieselregistry.com)

mtndewmaniac 03-19-2002, 06:44 AM Cool. Thanx for the info. I'll be checking it out. Definitely creates another avenue to explore.
I'm not sure how people feel about oil burners on the trail, but I do know that they have an excellent torque curve. Of course the added benefit of FI is a plus, and fairly easy to work on.
