I have a broken 242 from a 96 ZJ. It has a 7/8" long 23 spline input (no pics of the input on the other side):

I need to put the input gear from the ZJ np242 here (1998 TJ 231)- 2" long 23 spline input shown:

Are they the same gear cut? I know there was an early cut and a late one, just have to make sure that they will mesh up.
