I have an 86 CJ-7 with a 3.5 inch suspension lift my mechanic put on 2 years ago. The springs seem short, My new shackles are pointed straight up on both ends, and when I go Wheelin, my right side rear fender hits my tire on a good bump. I am looking for some options on what to do, without buying new springs???

The obvious answer here is sawzall. But you could add longer bumpstops, longer shackles or a body lift.

umm ah yeah that will fix nothing

What are all the specs? What size tire? which part of the fender is being hitting? How often does it hit? Does it only hit under flex?

It just sounds like you have some poor quality springs that are very stiff that is what screws up the shackle angle. Good springs are worth the money I would pony up for some new ones If I was you.

I have 4" BDS springs, SSV shocks, Daystar heavy duty shackles with about an extra 1" of lift on them, and 33" BFG mud terrains. It hits the corner of my right rear fender when going over hard bumps when Im heavy wheelin.... What about putting a stiffer shock in the rear????

Stiffer shock might help... how fast are you going?

Sounds to me like the "problem" is that you're getting good flex. Longer bumpstops, body lift, or sawzall will fix it.

Put on some fender flares from a TJ. It's an easy mod and it will fix your problem.

I have looked at this Jeep and this is what I think (don't know much about Jeeps though:flipoff2: )

I don't think it's a 'quality' issue with the springs, it's a length problem. The springs are stock length for 4" of lift so they are arched a lot. The result is that the shackles (front & rear) are perpendicular to the frame. Now like I said, I don't know a lot about Jeeps, but I'm pretty sure that isn't good. Are there lift springs that are made 1-2" longer than stock to fix this problem?

Also, 3 posts mention getting longer shackles. Either I'm crazy or this will not help, but make the problem worse.

So are there tons of guys running around with crappy shackle angles or are there longer springs out there??
