Need big torque? Need it to be relatively accurate?

The link below will help you determine how what torque reading you need with various length cheaters.

Just worked for me that time *shrug*

Who needs a torque wrench anyways. I've always gone by the theory of "tighten it until it strips, then back off 1/4 turn" :p

Sometimes torquing to German specs (goodentight) is fine, but sometimes you might actually have to measure.

When I first started work here, I asked someone how much torque to put on something, and they told me "Just keep tightening until it gets loose again." I thought it was kind of a smart-assed response and it sort of pissed me off, so I pulled the threads off a 1 - 8 grade-8 shcs with just a 3' bar. "Like that?" Now when I ask them a question about torque I usually get a reasonable answer.

A cheater bar will not change the torque reading you get from the torque wrench. An extension will change it.
The difference is that an extension changes the distance from the torque wrench square drive to the part being torqued, and a cheater bar just changes how far your hands are when you are applying the pressure.

Thats what we learned in the USAF...extensions change the reading not the length of the cheat bar.:D
